VM Replacement Routers

Has anyone noticed that VM are now using two types of Router?

Some on the VM Forums and a friend of mine has recieved a DLink - 615 D4.

I recieved a replacement router and it was a Netgear WNR2000V2 on may 6th.

I wonder if VM got stocks of Netgear back in because in a lot of areas they have been complaining that there were no routers available and on back order for customers, so phaps Dlink were not supplying as many as they should.

I have to say that the Netgear will knock spots off the Dlinks.

They are just temporary stock and why would you need a new router when you bought one from ARGOS a few weeks back anyway.

they do? well that certainly is not my experience and that shared by a hell of a lot of people. At least the Dlinks can have custom firmware installed.My Dlink is many times more stable than the 2 Netgears I had before it

My son had his BB installed yesterday and the guys who came hadn't been allocated any routers as their depot? had run out. Pete had to phone up to get one sent to him, I hope it arrives.

Zing u can install custom firmware on the Netgears also.

I'm getting deja vu reading that original post.

You have to be fairly impressively bored to crosspost something about which router your ISP supplied you.

Neither router is particularly amazing, the Netgear was chosen for looks and cost and gotten rid of primarily because it's a PoS, hence why it's an N router that's less than 40 quid retail. Put it under any significant load in terms of connections and it keels over, it has no GigE ports so will need replacing for 100Mbit services.

no doubt VM will supply routers nearly capable ( on paper lol) when its released anyway

checked again to see if the sites have been updated

Tomato = no support
DD-WRT = router not even on the tables of support
OpenWRT = work in progress( your not gonna tell me experimental support is classed as working are ya )

Why did you get a new router from Virginmedia when a few weeks ago you claimed that the ones supplied were rubbish and then you went out and bought a Netgear WNR2000 router from ARGOS which you enthused about, but but then you still called up for a replacement.

i needed another router to bridge two together and since i was entitled to a working router from virgin and the one i had kept dropping the wireless which was the main issue i asked for a replacement.
