Cable and wireless router.

A client of mine has Virgin Media ADSL through her BT line. Upto recently she was using a Cable and Wireless 802.11g MIMO ADSL2+ Modem router. Model CWADSLRMIMO
Initially it was connected by ethernet to her desktop Pc and the wireless facillity was used by a HP laptop. Both operating systems are Windows XP.

Recently internet connection was lost to the desktop. The laptop still picked up the wireless signal (Strength good etc) but no internet connection could be made. However using the Ethernet cable connection to the laptop was ok.

On the desktop in network connections there was a LAN connection and a LAN2 connection . I rang Virgin Media who advised me to disable and consequently delete both. They then blamed the desktop for lack of connection and could help no further. When I tried to then use it (as it was working before calling virgin) on the laptop that to wouldnt work. In network connections it shows the LAN and wireless connection and states "Connected firewalled" I have since rung Virgin 3/4 times since each getting different advice. All of them do say that the connection there end is fine.

On the router the power, wlan and adsl lights are all constantly green. The act or ast (sorry I havent got it in front of me) light tho is predominantly off and flickers occasionally. The laptop continues to show the router and good strength.

Cable and wireless are of no help at all. The helpline on the back is out of order. Virgin say the router needs to be reset (and have given me the info needed to give to the router to resume connection) and c&w should be able to advise me on how to do that. I have no instructions and as the router is over two years old very little else to go on. I dont really want to have to advise the client to get a new router when it seems a little reconfiguration is all that is needed.

Does anybody have any advice?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

Re: Cable and wireless router.

1. Check device mangler. Make sure there's no exclamations or crosses on network devices.
2. Check network settings. Are they ALL set to DHCP?
3. In a command prompt, do an ipconfig /all and check you see the correct gateway/IP/DNS/subnet, etc.
4. Test it with a.n.other PC - take a laptop or something if you have it and try that.
5. Plug the PC directly into the modem, and see if that works directly.
