Re: Major connection issues! 6/6/06
Started noticing problems in the Leeds area around 15:00 this afternoon... following sites not working or working intermittently:
FlickR
MySpace
BBC
Google
Yahoo
Blogger
MSN
... things started to improve around 20:00 but seem to be rapidly going downhill again over the last 15 minutes.
Boo!
P.S. 'www' in hebrew translates to 666.
'The Hebrew equivalent of our "w" is the letter "vav" or "waw". The numerical value of vav is 6. So the English "www" transliterated into Hebrew is "vav vav vav", which numerically is 666.'

Re: Major connection issues! 6/6/06
I really never get how these problems happen. Noone has the same errors, but most people have some problems, and websites come and go as they please, one minute I'm fine using google, then it all goes belly up with them, but the BBC website is back for me!
I guess that's just the nature of a DNS server problem (what I assume this is, since it seems very similar to last time we had what I was told was one of them) but I wouldn't really know, not qualified in internet management! But are ntl?

Re: Major connection issues! 6/6/06
Oh yeah, and why is there never a problem for anyone getting to Cable Forum?! Certainly I've never had a problem with it, but then I guess if people couldn't get to it, they wouldn't be able to tell us...

It is a DNS issue, they're simply overwhelmed. NTL have said so themselves on th service status page.

Nice that they've put it on the Server Status page, I feel much less aggreived when they just bother to do that! If their DNS servers keep getting overwhelmed like this then surely they really need to get more DNS servers or something... again I might be talking rubbish, not an expert...

Nope, you're spot on.
A better distribution of DNS servers would be alot better, along with a back-up that the transparent proxies could auto-switch to.
