I have noticed lately that on the top left of the tv screen there are a group of numbers which seem to do a very fast count down or up. They are to quick for me to read. They're only on screen for a few seconds. Any ideas as to what they are. Thanks.
In the past, I recall seeing something similar on the sports channels although I don't remember any countdown. I always assumed that it was some kind of identifier so that if the event was pirated in some way the pirate could expect a knock on their door from the powers that be. I can't say I've seen it recently.

ITV have been flashing a countdown timer on the top left of the screen recently to advertise a show called Trigger Point which starts tonight (23rd Jan).
