Well I believe technically it's illegal to use a device which removes/strips HDCP from a signal allowing it to be recorded, so as to helping you to record footage you are not meant to record on to a pc etc, I don't think anyone can legally help with that.
The reason for the black screen could be that the HDCP Standard could have been updated since you last tried it, and the boxes could have been updated to meet that standard meaning if you connect a box to a none HDCP Compliant display then you won't get a image.
