Shell Energy Reduce Contracts to 12-month terms

Shell Energy, soon to be taken over by Octopus Energy, have scrapped their 18-month broadband contracts and cut them to 12-months

The new contracts and prices are as follows on full fibre

109Mbps £26.99 a month rising to £42.74 from month 13

207Mbps £29.99 a month rising to £48.36 from month 13

311Mbps £40.99 a month rising to £53.99 from month 13

525Mbps £43.99 a month rising to £59.61 from month 13

944Mbps £45.99 a month rising to £65.24 from month 13

All prices are subject to a Consumer Price Index rate of inflation plus up to 3% rise from April 1st each year.

Re: Shell Energy Reduce Contracts to 12-month terms

It's usually the other way round - contacts being extended in length with many forcing customers to allow two inflation-busting price increases during this time because Ofcom has not done the right thing and said that changing the terms of the contract (ie the price) is a breach of contract. A perfect example of this is Virgin Media.

Any reason why they've done this? What's the benefit to Shell Energy?
