Council Cuts

Quote:
Twenty five (English) councils .... set out what they were planning to cut, moderately or severely:

58% said highways and transport (including road improvements, streetlights, pothole filling)
47% said libraries
45% said early years and youth clubs.
44% ear-marked public health services like smoking cessation, sexual health, substance misuse
36% said children's services.
Here in Cardiff, the council has already massively cut all those, whilst laying-off thousands of council workers and replacing them with private contractors who seem to be struggling to do the job.

Local taxes are bound to rise, including business rates which caused the failure of many businesses and shops.

Our highways budget has been raided for years. Now instead of potholes being fixed in 3 days, it can take a month. By which time more potholes have appeared.

Cuts to support services are putting pressure on Mental health provision. With more people getting arrested and/or placed in secure units. When previously they could be supported to remain in the community at a far lower cost.

You are lucky as it take much longer in our neck of the woods and even then its patch it up with cheap materials and lol and behold give it a few weeks and its opening itself up again.

So much for the insincere promises of far better funding for mental health services as ones mental health is just as important as ones physical health.
