We probably are but when someone who is white decides to call themselves black or someone who is 69 tries to be 49 or even when a man decides to call himself a woman but then goes on to rape more women in jail, then we reserve the right to call 'bullsh*t' on all this bullsh*t.

Agreed, but when trans people have a much higher rate of self-harm and suicide than the general public because of non-acceptance and prejudice, perhaps we might want to do something about it?

Gender and sexuality are two different things.

I’ve always been socially ‘liberal’.
I was active in the TRG in the 80s and 90s - I don’t believe that people don’t fit into simple stereotypes or narrow categories, re my posts above...

Difference is transgender is a recognised medical condition whereas being a different age is not.

Agreed. I have nothing against people saying that they are transsexual. That's a different issue from saying that they are actually a man/woman. You can say you are transsexual but imo, you shouldn't claim to actually be the opposite sex. Since you (obviously) don't have the genetic makeup to be the opposite sex. This is why we are in the pickle that we are.

I agree. It is a medical condition. That doesn't, however, make their chromosomes different.
It may one day be the case that identifying as a Apache Attack Helicopter is recognized as a medical condition. That won't make the sufferer of that condition an actual Apache Helicopter.....it'll just mean that they think that they are one.....and we all accept that.

It's like being back in the 20th Century, when homosexuality was seen as a psychological abberation that needed to be cured, and people were imprisoned or given mind-numbing drugs to "make it go away", or when women were expected to stay at home and basically be second class citizens, subservient to their husbands or fathers.
Hopefully, most of us are more enlightened now.

I'm not saying that at all! At no point did I minimise challenges some people undergo and nor have I said that all people who do this or that are the same.
All I'm saying is that we must protect free speech be permitted to say what we think. If the language turns to threats of violence, then that should trigger a police response.
The diversity/equality legislation is poorly thought out and wrong, because it protects some sections of society and not others. Legislation and protections should be applied to everyone.
