The FA Cup to be shown live on BBC TV and BT Sport from next year

Huge boost for the Beeb as deal is struck for world's oldest football competition to return after a two-year absence on ITV

The BBC have won back the right to air live domestic football with a deal to show the FA Cup.

The world's oldest surviving football competition will return to the Beeb next year after a two-year absence, as part of a joint agreement with new broadcasters BT Sport.

The coup, due to be announced on Wednesday, has been brokered by the FA’s new chairman Greg Dyke - a former director general of the BBC.

The return of live FA Cup matches to BBC TV will be boost for anchorman Gary Lineker and his team of expert analysts, who have had to make do with highlights show in recent years.

ITV, who signed a two-year contract in 2012 for FA Cup and England internationals worth £90m, will keep the Three Lions' games.

It appears the deal has been brokered between the TV companies and Dyke in a bid to keep all broadcasters happy.

It is a huge boost for the BBC, who had suffered a series of setbacks in losing out on rights to commercial TV.

See a lot of comments like this on different forums. Yes the BBC can be a bit cliched but then I think Sky over analyse things. I blame Andy Gray, all that circling players on a big screen and stuff, moving players around to where the "should" have been. Just let us watch the game don't analyse it to death

I'll be honest, I don't watch much football, but personally I do think that all the channels should cut down on the pundits. I find it can be exciting watching the game, but generally I don't find it exciting watching a group of blokes talk about the game for a hour afterwards, regardless of their credentials within the game.
