Re: Plane Spotters Corner

If the video clip some media outlets are sharing reportedly of the final seconds of the China Eastern B737-800 are accurate, I just hope everyone had blacked out otherwise the last minute or two would have been beyond comprehension.

Not sure if the grounding of the type in China is warranted or political but whatever the cause or reason it's another black day for Boeing.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner

You would hope the fast rate of falling would have caused the passsengers to black out.

Obsviusly it is very hard to make any conclusions so soon. Will be interesting to see if they find any wreckage away from the main site which could possibly indicate structural damage / tail damage.

Obviously pilot suicide is a possibility but why wait so long in the flight?

And looking at logs it does seems that there was a brief moment where the aircraft regained altitude so they were possibly trying to sort things out.

the 737 (all versions) has had the most crashes involving fatalities than any other aircraft. But you have to square that with it probably being the most numerous and used mid-range jet there is.

So if you base it on crashes per miles flown it's probably on a par or better than its competitors.

I was just wondering if the world wasn't full of strained international relations, would the Chinese have grounded the aircraft type before the reason for the loss was known or at least becoming apparent. I know that's no consolation to the families/friens who lost someone.

This is quite interesting - you can look at crash data a number of different ways (country, carrier, aircraft, etc.).

Quote from The Sun:
ONE of the black boxes that could unlock the mystery of the Boeing 737 crash in China has today been found "severely damaged" among the jet debris.

The black box is so damaged that investigators can't tell whether it's the flight data recorder or the cockpit voice recorder - and it's not known if the authorities will be able to retrieve the data.
If it's the flight data recorder so long as the chips inside are intact they can be removed from the PCBs and read out separately.

The article suggests that at impact the plane was travelling near the speed of sound.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner

Doncaster Sheffield Airport will be closing.

https://simpleflying.com/doncaster-s...rport-closure/

I'm guessing some of the TUI flights and Wizz will go to Leeds Bradford and possibly some cargo to EMA.
The Vulcan will probably end up having to be dismantled and will end up in a museum somewhere. I can't see it being allowed to do a ferry flight with only a few months to get ready.

Last I read they didn't know if a short ferry flight or dismantle and rebuild, either way it'll happen by June 2023.

I had the Hydraulic and Landing Gear Manuals in my office in my last job, as they helped get here flying.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner

US Marines* buzzing Paisley of all places. Based on its movement it’s lining up either for the Royal Alexandra Hospital or Glasgow Airport. Both are close by and when we see the air ambulance of an evening it also approaches both in basically the same way.

*I’m assuming they’re still the only ones flying Ospreys

US Navy & USAF also fly them.

(And the Japanese Self Defence Force, but they’re unlikely to be buzzing Paisley )

Re: Plane Spotters Corner

You probably have read about the recent Jet2 bomb threat which turned out to be a drunk passenger. Also within the same week another passenger on an Easyjet flight apparently Airdropped a photo of a bomb to other passengers iPhones nearby.

For the Jet2 event emergency vehicles were all on standby, the flight was diverted to Stansted, and escorted in by fighter jets.
On top of that it meant Stansted was temporarily closed.

Imagine the amount of money that must have cost! As well as all the disruption.
Tax payers money!

No doubt the person that started these hoaxes will spend a night in a cell and that will be all.

They should be banned from flying and then made to pay a hefty fine or do commnunity service!
