help no signal!

I'm a newbie here and not sure if I'm in the right forum. I have just moved into my new flat and wanted to connect my Samsung (freeview in the TV) to an aerial port but there isn't one in the flat at all. So plugged in my other aerial and I get no signal whatsoever. I have moved the aerial around but to no avail. It is dark outside so I cannot check to see if there is an outdoor aerial. It's been a long hard day and all I want is to watch some tv Can anyone help me fix this problem?

Re: help no signal!

Can you see any aerials on other houses? If so, point your aerial in the same direction.

How far have you moved? It's possible you will need to retune your TV if you have moved to a new transmitter area.

If you post the first half of your old and new postcodes, we may be able to help a bit more.

ps. Welcome to the forum!

Re: help no signal!

Thanks for the reply. I shall try retuning them in the morning. The first part of the post code is tr1 both my old and new home. The aerial worked fine in my old house. I also find it strange how there is no aerial socket. I will look in the morning with regards to outside to aerials.

P.s. Forgot to say I have two tvs, my big one in the lounge and my little one for.my bedroom and no signal on both tvs.

Re: help no signal!

Wow, we don't get many visitors from down there .

You shouldn't need to retune your TV - it's probably better that you don't try. Point your aerial at the transmitter in the south-east of Truro. See this map - zoom in if necessary
http://www.ukfree.tv/transmitters/tv/TRURO

But if you live in a dip, you may be out of luck, and will need to get a roof aerial installed (or maybe even satellite dish). The postcode checker here will tell you if you can expect to get Freeview

Re: help no signal!

There are three transmitters serving the area around Truro. The two main transmitters at Caradon Hill (to the NE) & Redruth (to the SW), both require the receiving aerial to have its rods/elements horizontal to the ground. Then there is the Truro relay located above Boscawen Park. This requires the elements to be vertical to the ground. Most people in Truro itself will use this relay due to the local tapography, but as the output from it is only 4 watts, the likelyhood of you getting good reception with even minor obstructions is unlikely on a set top antenna. So if you dont have line of sight, a rooftop job is the only option.
