Re: The Mandalorian
that is ridiculous. Funnily enough I was having a conversation with a friend about this last night saying 8 episodes isn't enough and there is so much story to tell that it should have been planned for 16 eps and if they didn't want to "pad" the season and thought 16 eps was too much then at the very least they should have gone with the GoT model of 10 one hour episodes. At the rate this is going as it isn't even full episode length 8 x 30 minute episodes is 4 hours and they had might as well just called it a mini series rather than an actual proper full series.

Re: The Mandalorian
I think 30 mins is probably a v deliberate decision
1 - keeps the costs down
2 - keeps it like The Clone Wars Cartoon - i.e. it just gets on with it - 30 mins where stuff actually happens Sure it could be 45 mins - add in 1.5 mins of beginning credits, make the montages a bit longer, add more as he travels "alone", and have more sitting around talking crap He's not one for conversation, so there would just be 5 mins here and there of awkward silence.

1 - producing 2 30 min episodes will cost more than a 1 hour episode.*
2 - episodes 1&2 could easily have been a 1 hr episode.
* Are you really happy with an entire series that lasts for a mere 4 hours? Sounds more like a mini series or webisodic series.

Re: The Mandalorian
I hear it is very good. But I just can’t bring myself to subscribe further to other channels I already pay enough.
I’ve managed to watch 2 series of Star Trek - Discovery, so I would expect I can seek out alternative ways of viewing it.

Re: The Mandalorian
I had assumed it would be a weekly 1 hour episode, but I've enjoyed these short ones. Maybe their market research shows that's what more ppl want, people are too busy? Netflix are doing those trials to watching things at slighly faster speeds to watch more tv in a shorter space of time!
it depends what you mean -
stretching either episode 1 or 2 into 1 hr could have been bad, i.e. padding between the good bit. - that's what i meant would cost more to make
but yes, if you mean ep1 and ep2 could have been one one hour and a bit episode, then yes that would work.
I'm just thinking maybe they wanted to avoid shows like Lost, Walking dead, where you're shouting at the screen "get on with it, do something, this talking is boring now"
or, perhaps they were thinking of the popularity of binge watching, so more short episodes is irrelevant
Maybe season 2 will be more traditional US style 22 episodes 45mins season now they know ppl like it, i.e. this who season is just a teaser?

Re: The Mandalorian
Having watched 2.5 episodes so far, I can say that I think it’s very good. Anything with Werner Herzog in it, gets my approval.

I just saw episode 4. Another really enjoyable episode.
Also ep4 was directed by Bryce Dallas Howard.

Re: The Mandalorian
Really enjoyed episode 6, I like the "re-imagining" of stories we've seen before, I think it works well for this space western.
