Extra box installation.

Hi all, I currently have a v6, 100mb internet and a phone line. We want a extra tv box in the separate lounge / dining room. There is a coax wire cut off at the back which could be extended. Now if I request another tv box that links to the v6 tivo will virgin install it free or is quick install available and will they give connectors and coax?

Any advice please.

Re: Extra box installation.

Additional boxes are a manned install as standard due to the additional cabling & re-balance of the signal levels.

Re: Extra box installation.

Hi, I have had an additional V6 box for the games room delivered and have self installed it along with the latest hub.
I notice in the install instructions on line it refers to 1. Powerline adaptors. and 2. requirement of ethernet connections. ? Originally I had a Tivo box installed by an eng'r in room 1 who then replaced it with a V6 box, the Tivo box he then installed in the 2cnd room which has now been replaced with the V6. box.
During all the installations carried out by he Virgin eng'rs at no time have Powerline adaptors or the need for ethernet connections been required.
Can anyone throw light on the matter.
I am waiting to get through to Virgin on the phone which to date has not been too bad!
Any advice. cheers.

Re: Extra box installation.

Each V6 box requires an internet connection. The recommended method is by a wired connection. I have a separate router with good WiFi so ours is connected via that. The box tested the connection before "approving" it.

Incidentally one of the available DNS servers set in the router must be the VM one for things to function properly. Mine has Googles set as primary and secondary. VM is tertiary.

Re: Extra box installation.

You don't need to call at this point. If you can, connect the new V6 to the Hub by Ethernet, but if you can't, use Wi-Fi instead. Most people find that Wi-Fi works fine. You'd only need a Powerline if you can't use Ethernet and can't get a good Wi-Fi signal.
