Twice this year, including on Mother’s Day, Mr Trump tweeted more than 100 times when most of America was asleep.
Although it scarcely seemed possible, their content has also deteriorated. Recent nadirs include Mr Trump’s recurring assertion that Joe Scarborough, the co-anchor of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, murdered a staff member in 2001. Even pro-Trump publications felt obliged to dispute that cartoonishly nasty claim.

Whatever people think of Trump that's their opinion but twitter is playing a dangerous game here.

This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules about glorifying violence. However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain accessible.

Re: Trump gets fact checked
Twitter is treading a dangerous line here. If they’re going to start actively moderating the platform they have to do it fairly and evenly. Even as a private company they’re subject to the laws that determine whether they’re merely a forum for other people’s opinions, or the actual publisher of those opinions (which exposes them to defamation claims). Whether or not Trump has the power to alter the law by Order to catch Twitter out is somewhat besides the point. If the debate is allowed to get going and keep going, sooner or later there will be the votes in Congress to do it.

A bit of a side note but that George Floyd stuff is mad. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the police other than being fired.

It's the age old thing that law always lags technology.

A few law suits I would imagine.

The problem is that it's the President right? They already do actively moderate the platform but when the person being moderated is so high profile it creates an issue. If some ordinary person of little consequence was to 'glorify violence' then they will likely be moderated and banned eventually.
Trump isn't an ordinary person though so to what extent do the rules need to be loosened for him and other politicians?
Still, maybe it will not be a bad thing for Twitter to take more responsibility for what is said on their platform. Twitter is an increasingly unhinged, reactionary, platform on which even reasonable people seem to lose their minds.

Sorry, are you implying that this is the first time that moderation has occurred or that moderation of the platform has only recently started to occur? Because obviously that's utter nonsense.
If this wasn't Trump then more than likely no-one would bat an eye. However, for some reason Trump seems to think he can post what he wants, when he wants without thinking about the content he posts.
I highly doubt Trump will win this one.

Agree, those that do probably don't have 80m followers and somewhat considerable influence.
As the old adage goes 'With great power comes great responsibility' Trump at times seems to want all of the power yet take none of the responsibility.

'When the looting starts, the shooting starts'
Is there a reason such a tweet shouldn't be hidden?

How many tweets that have directly or INDIRECTLY encouraged the violence and looting have been hidden? No reports of that happening, if anything the encouraging words are being widely reported. Here's an idea, why don't they stop looting and committing widespread violence? Is that possible?
They seem to want to have complete freedom to going around committing various crimes such as mugging, burglary, murder, etc and to be able to resist arrest and have to be let go. That is the result they are aiming for. So many examples(US & UK) of where it's obvious that there is little point in resisting or struggling, but they still insist on doing it. The more force required to restrain somebody, the more likely problems are going to result. Do what the rest of us have to do in that situation, don't resist and don't be violent.

Most POC in the US do exactly that, and there are still incidents where they die or are seriously injured.

About 1 in 1,000 black men and boys in America can expect to die at the hands of police, according to a new analysis of deaths involving law enforcement officers. That makes them 2.5 times more likely than white men and boys to die during an encounter with cops.
The analysis also showed that Latino men and boys, black women and girls and Native American men, women and children are also killed by police at higher rates than their white peers. But the vulnerability of black males was particularly striking.

Oh dear, and how many have, Show the evidence to back up your statement?
Whilst looting is an abhorrent act the threatened response of shooting people is completely over the top.
Have you watched the original footage of the person who died whilst being under arrest? I have and there was no resistance whatsoever.
You have, i suspect absolutely 0 practical or first hand relevant knowledge idea about the state of Minnesota or Minneapolis it's population, political make up or nature. I spent a considerable amount of time there with work (and friends) to the point it's almost a 2nd home. and will do so again in the future. I (on a rare occasion) can speak from a position of knowledge on this subject. I highly doubt you can.

Re: Trump gets fact checked
I wonder when the FBI will finish their investigation. The officers are already fired but are looking at murder charges as well, the protests might calm if they're charged.

The team take a far relaxed approach to our own set of rules on here. The only thing I won't allow, is another member directly insulting another member (I am not saying you have here). But I just wanted to highlight that Twitter upholding it's own user policies, it has to do so across the board and not just to Trump (as much that I get people cannot stand him).

I have no intent nor requirement to fret.
Twitter can do as they please, it's their platform. Just as I've previously stated this is yours.
If people don't like it, they don't have to use it.
