wireless router

I tried it and it was extremely unreliable - took it back to pcworld and got a belkin pre n router - this was supposed to be the cutting edge at ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£120. worked fine for a couple of weeks and then packed in when I tried to reboot it! bumped into someone at pcworld who told me other people had experienced problems with the same model!

took it back to pcworld and got a linksys wireless router and it's been working fine for the last 2-3 weeks without problem.

That's a lot better than the Belkin one

Don't forget you'll need a wireless card/ adapter for each PC you want to connect to the router.

The linksys wireless routers on Amazon are much cheaper at the mo if you include VAT and free delivery. G and GS models are same price

search amazon.co.uk for

but there is a thread on linksysinfo about problems with the GS model (which looks to be similar but with more room for 3rd party firmware)... so theire is always the old slow cheapest

I have the Belkin router that was in the first link.
Set up was easy and worked first time.
Mine is on for the majority of the day and hasn't had one glitch in the month I have had it.

I've said it before and no doubt I will say it again, the problem with PCs and their setups is that no 2 PCs are alike and no 2 PCs behave exactly the same. You may have a totally rock solid setup using the Belkin router with your PC but many people have problems with Belkin equipment (myself included). There is no saying if dannero would have problems with the Belkin if he tried it but Linksys and Netgear equipment often seems to be more reliable, better supported easier to use.
I'm glad your setup is working correctly but since you have only had it for 1 month you may find that the router may start mis-behaving after a while. I know I had the misfortune to suffer a problematic wired router which behaved perfectly for a couple of months but after that I was constantly having to reboot it to regain my connection

Good luck with your setup, hopefully you will find that it remains solid for you

Thats were I got mine from, had since Jan, works well, plenty of feature's and roaming around the house with the laptop signal is very good (terraced house) also Son's PC upstairs connects via wireless and we never have any problems with it.

Agreed. I had heard Linksys were more reliable but just got what was available in the limited time (2 hours!) I had to get nagging children off my back.

The point of my post was to show all was not as gloomy as it seemed if anyone had bought a Belkin and it was qualified with the short length of time it had been in use. Although an inconvenience, it's lifetime warranty may come in handy!
Oh btw, I wish my set up was stable. An XP, an ME laptop and a 98se. That combination was why I was impressed how easy was to set up. Or maybe it is just my expert knowledge of wireless networks!

I Have used them both Linksys and the belkin, while the range was about the same with the laptop around the house, I found the belkin simple to setup compared to Linksys, there both very easy to setup and from a newbie's point of view they really can not go wrong with either unit.

Just to add the Linksys, pc to pc transfer of files was faster than the belkin
