networking

I've been unable to network my stepsons new pc to my belkin cable router. prior to which his old pc was networked fine with my pc via this router, which is normally very easy to set up and network which was why i bought it. my pc, the main pc, is working fine via the router on ntl broadband. i have set up the software as described on the disc for the router, i have checked the nic on the 2nd pc and tested that it works fine which it does. i have tried a different rj45 ethernet cable just in case of a fault, both cables were tested to work but on the network connections page i get network connection disconnected, the nic light is not on. i've reinstalled the belkin software and router on my pc, tried the network setup wizard connection manually and also via the xp pro disc for a home network connection, still nothing. i've retried everything i possibly can think of time and time again, i've spent ages on it and i cannot resolve this matter. any suggestions?

Re: networking

Its probably the NIC.

Connect the cable from the router to the old pc to the main PC instead and see if that gives you a light - at least you will then know where the problem lies, the router or the PC.
