Re: Wifi Issues

Your levels are fine. You need to ascertain if it’s the connection dropping, or as your title says the WiFi. WiFi seems to be the used word nowadays covering everything, as if it’s only wifi dropping the levels are irrelevant. Also the lights on front the hub give info as well. I’ve never really worked with hub 3 so can’t tell you much about the lights but I’m sure others can!

The lights on the hub3 don't give any info in router mode, as there is only the white bar at the bottom and the other 2 show up in modem mode or when it's booting.

Setup a thinkbroadband monitor, this will show when your wired connection drops or whether you have a WiFi issue.

those power levels are nothing to do with the wifi and only affect the shubs connection to the VM network. Wifi is handled by a completely different part of the shub and it is possible for the wifi to drop and the shub still retain its wan connection. As an example, any devices which have a wired connection to the shub will maintain their internet connection and be completely oblivious to any wifi drop outs. The wifi connection solely relates to the wireless connection established between the device (e.g. laptop) and the shub.

Re: Wifi Issues

Did you reboot the shub. You arent the first person to have this problem and a reboot gets it going again although it is a temporary fix and will happen again. If it continues to happen you'll have to ring 150 and ask for a new shub. It is a known issue so you shouldnt have a problem getting a new one.

I did reboot the hub but the weather has turned over the past few days so I haven't managed to spend enough time outside to give it a good test the issue doesn't happen indoors

Re: Wifi Issues

So if it is just outside you should consider getting a router which should give you a stronger signal if you use it outside often.

What one/s would you suggest for the best performance?

well that's a different story. There is a difference between the shub dropping the wifi signal to all devices and nothing being able to connect at all and problems with range/interference. If you move out of range of the shub and the client loses its signal it isn't the shub's.

As always with problems like this the best solution is to buy your own proper router. The shubs are free which means they are entry level low performance routers. You probably aren't going to like this but I always recommend Asus routers and this is the best you can get for wifi coverage. Your other option depending how much coverage your need with regards to multiple floor in your house plus outside is to go for 3 lower end routers and use mesh wifi.

Can't fault that advice. Our Buffalo WiFi router covers the whole of the property, the garden and at full speed. Unfortunately it's only 100Mbs so will soon need an upgrade.

You have to remember that the ISP's kit is the minimum needed.
