It's daft that the holders don't get a bye into the next tournament like they do in the World Cup. But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for UEFA to do something as sensible as to change the rules in this case.

congratulations to liverpool, its a shame they might not be able to defend the champions league, they should bring automatic qualification in.

Don't know ... but Tyldsley was just saying UEFA is going to have a meeting and decide whether Liverpool will be allowed to defend the cup after all.

Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season

To settle major competitions on penalties is not a fair way of deciding a major game, a replay at the least.

But its done and it does settle the game, I wouldnt have thought many scousers would want to return to Turkey in a few weeks for a replay.

And look at it another way, after 90 mins plus 30 mins stoppage time, Liverpool were the team that had enough left to concentrate. So the better team on the night won.

Its excellent to see an English team do well, and for the record I'm not particularly fond of liverpool..........or Man Utd for that matter, and its nice to dream, thats what we Boro fans do lol

nah, im a fan of penalties because its a test of the keepers and players mentally its the thrill of not knowing which way the kicker will take his penalty and the keeper not knowing which way unless he goes the right way...so many combinations to win too

It is, but there is something to be said for having a decision on the night. Imagine having to have a replay for the World Cup final. Not nice
