Mobile phone suitable for Trafficmaster App
I have been using Trafficmaster Oracle / Freeway since 1999, but the service ended last year
I am looking for a mobile phone, solely for use with the Trafficmaster App as this is now the only option
I have asked Trafficmaster three times, but they won't answer the question, so here goes...
The App costs :
Free to download and first 30 days access, then
£0.69 per 3 months
£1.99 per 12 months
£4.99 lifetime
What method does the Application use to connect to the service?
Does the mobile phone require to have specific formats of communication installed / active (such as GPRS, 4G, GPS, etc) ?
This is essential to establish what type of device and contract service I should look at
Any and all advice welcome

Re: Mobile phone suitable for Trafficmaster App
By the looks of things the app is only available for iPhone (well, iOS) so you would need an iPhone. The app gets its data over the internet, so any internet connection will do.

Hmm, as an existing Virgin Media customer I had hoped to use their latest offer (a Samsung Galaxy for £23 per month)
Looks like I will need to look elsewhere...

Either that or get a new Sat Nav with inbuilt traffic information

Trafficmaster offer this for (existing customers) for £200
However the plugin is £129 per year
For that price I would rather have a mobile phone device capable of using the Trafficmaster App
I can then expand on this with other Apps
From what I can see, the iPhone 3 is suitable for this purpose

Re: Mobile phone suitable for Trafficmaster App
you'd better make sure the app doesn't need anything note than ios 4.2.1 now or in future or you may find the phone won't be suitable.
if you are looking at older iPhones make sure it's a 3gs

I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole though, too slow imo, you'd be better off looking for a 4 or 4s

Re: Mobile phone suitable for Trafficmaster App
Probably a stupid suggestion given the size but you could use a iPad mini with 3G, that has the same GPS internals as the iPhone. At least you could also use it in the house too.

That's the base iPhone I have been looking at
However, none of the current networks seem to have this available any more
The best deal I can find is with t-mobile and iPhone 4 with unlimited data for £26 per (24) month, after all I want and need is data

I will consider anything
The primary use is the Trafficmaster App so needs to be capable of being rested next to the in-car charger and centre console (not viewable)
Anything else is a bonus

Re: Mobile phone suitable for Trafficmaster App
If you are are just using it for traffic congestion type of information then there are free and paid android apps that do those kind of things. If you are not too attached to the TrafficMaster layout, you have a choice of hundreds of android phones to run the alternative apps.

Re: Mobile phone suitable for Trafficmaster App
So long as it uses the Trafficmaster feed, I will consider it
However from what I can ascertain only their Apps utilise this
