BEIRUT (Reuters) - Lebanese security officials warned the prime minister and president last month that 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate stored in Beirut’s port posed a security risk and could destroy the capital if it exploded, according to documents seen by Reuters and senior security sources.
A report by the General Directorate of State Security on events leading up to the explosion included a reference to a private letter sent to President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Hassan Diab on July 20.
While the content of the letter was not in the report seen by Reuters, a senior security official said it summed up the findings of a judicial investigation launched in January which concluded the chemicals needed to be secured immediately.
The state security report, which confirmed the correspondence to the president and the prime minister, has not previously been reported.

I assume its riddled with ads, uBlock is really not happy with it, so I'll give it a miss.
So basically someone sent them a letter two weeks ago ?
Although the actual letter hasnt been seen, so its unclear what it actually said ?
Also, this " has not previously been reported."

Reuters is a leading British-based news agency which most news organisations subscribe to, and it dates back to 1851. It's far from being an ad-heavy website so might be worth trying it from another device like your phone.

If you have a little spare monies to purchase a Raspberry Pi (or if you already have one, you can use that), set yourself up with Pi-Hole. I just checked the link and I get no ads at all.

Re: Huge explosion in Lebanese capital, Beirut
Ad block shows none, redirect not active, but script block shows 21 potentially hazardous scripts. FF (V52.9.0) shows the page OK, apart from a fuzzy picture, with these defences active.

Re: Huge explosion in Lebanese capital, Beirut
Page opened ok for me using Pale Moon, revealing a story with no story apart from uncorroborated 'facts'
Probably pulled a few in though for the Twitter experience

Re: Huge explosion in Lebanese capital, Beirut
Latest up-date is not looking good.
Quote:
Snippet..... The pulse, first detected on Thursday, had slowed significantly on Friday, rescue coordinator Nicholas Saade told AFP.
"After removing the big chunks we scanned again for heartbeats or respiration, it showed low beat/respiration levels of seven per minute. The reading before was about 16 to 18," he said.
Rescue workers said there may also be a dead body under the rubble of the building, reports Reuters news agency.
One volunteer told CNN that rescuers had detected a heartbeat signal at another location under the rubble.
