Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

If Eleven Sports is added to my Virgin package at no extra cost, I will watch the Barcelona v Real Madrid games but doubtful on anything else.

I want BT sports for the Premiership Rugby - it wouldn't worry me if I didn't get the football (plenty on sky).

I think that's the thing with football. There's more football than ever before on, and in the past the evidence was that people are being more selective with the games they watch as opposed to watching more football.

On top of that I think there's scope for BT to hype up other leagues they add to their portfolio - in particular France/Germany.

It's been quoted Sky paid £18m last season for La Liga alone. Eleven would need 360 000 subscribers at £50 a year to cover that ignoring taxes, other costs, etc.

I suppose if they could get a wholesale deal with Virgin, maybe 25p per XL (whatever they call that these days) would give them about £5m towards costs.
Well, if they get a wholesale deal with Virgin, that will be a start. If Virgin do get it and it proves to be a pull for new subscribers, Sky and BT will sit up and take notice.

Let's see how this pans out. The channel will become more attractive as it gets more content.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

It all depends on what content really though. The only thing that would make me consider it would be if they got English football matches. As a stand alone channel at present it's not attractive enough FOR ME PERSONALLY.
Incidently, how much does it cost to sub at present through a PC or tablet anyone?

Interesting situation in Germany - after losing the Premier League TV rights to streaming provider DAZN for three years, Sky has now successfully won them for three years from 2019. https://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2018...-ousting-dazn/

Sky's epitaph has been written far too soon by some who don't really know what they are talking about...

Was this because

1) viewing figures bombed when streamed?
2) streaming provider couldn't make it pay?
3) premier league wNted more money for the German rights?

DAZN are well established in Germany so I assume Sky just outbid them. That being said, I don't think they are on Sky or cable in Germany. https://watch.dazn.com/en-DE/sports/

Sky are going nowhere because they have and will continue to extend their global presence. They are embracing on demand now, and that includes OTT services on Sky Q, as well as rolling out their own streaming services. As long as they continue to embrace the future and offer an up-to-date, stable system, I am sure they will continue to flourish under Comcast.

As long as they don't go further downmarket, there is a bright future for Sky, but it's going to be tough in that competitive environment.

I think that Sky's only problem in the UK is it doesn't own its broadband network.

True, although this will be less of a problem when the roll out of super-fast broadband is completed. As long as BT learn to get off their arses fast enough to fix problems on the system. That company seems to have retained far too many of its practices developed while it was in the public sector.

BT suffered years of neglect as far as maintenance and cable replacement was concerned. Still probable playing catch up.

I guess it's down to areas , I've always found my fibre broadband connection through the numerous Openreach re-sellers to be reliable if not as fast as VM headline speeds.
