Copper : Season 1
Set in 1850's New York.
Irish detectives, corrupt wealthy businessmen, brothels, murders and the beginnings of CSI New York.
Highly addictive, very watchable TV.

re: Copper : Season 1
Oh, more info:
Copper is a new drama series from BBC America, and its first original scripted show rather than just a UK import. Created by Tom Fontana (Oz, Homicide: Life on the Street) and Will Rokos. Barry Levinson is also an executive producer.

Wikipedia - Copper
Quote:
The series centers on Kevin Corcoran, an Irish immigrant policeman trying to keep the peace in the historical Five Points neighborhood in 1860s New York City while searching for information on the disappearance of his wife and death of his daughter. It explores the aftermath of the American Civil War as well as the social stratification involving New York's aristocracy and African American population.
