From 20/05/20 if you don't want your organs donated after your death you need to OPT-OUT.

It's not the opt in or out that the problem it's the wishes of the next of kin that's the problem.

I've opted out, this really upsets me, the state seems to think of me as a bag of parts to do with as they please

Is it donation if they just take them, diminishes it somewhat, could understand it if more had been done to encourage genuine donation but an ad campaigm every couple of years was never going to be sufficient

Re: Organ Donation now OPT-OUT from 20/05/20
It doesn't affect me as I'm already opted out having bequeathed my body to medical science.
My family were informed by me several years ago and have (reluctantly) agreed to my wishes.

I was opt-in anyway, don't see the need for my organs to rot with me if they can be used to save other people. I wouldn't be needing them...

They can strip me bare, and throw what’s left in the skip after I’ve gone. I couldn’t care less.

Re: Organ Donation now OPT-OUT from 20/05/20
Do they need body parts from old people, or is this aimed at the young.
I cant imagine what they would want from someone who died of old age ?

A body is a body if you want to train doctors.

Re: Organ Donation now OPT-OUT from 20/05/20
After death I'd like my body to
1)Be used to save lives immediately - organs/tissues anything
2)Be used to save lives in longer run - scientific study, storage
3)Be used in training.
4)Be disposed of free for my family not to have to pay to get rid of a shell.
BUT
While 1) is easy the others less so. I'd like to simply say that whatever unit is closest to me at my death gets the corpse you can't. You need a pre-existing agreement with one unit and need to change that if you move, it closes etc. What if I die on holiday?
