Makes sense really, why carry duplicate SD channels when all non HD kit will be removed from Virgin system soon.

AIUI Premier Sports SD will close and become Premier Sports 1 HD and Premier Sports 2 and Freesports will only launch in HD.
It seems to be the case with the smaller less affluent channels that they are cutting costs by closing their SD service when they launch in HD.

True, maybe this was the reason why VM wouldn't carry Freesports from launch when it was only in HD??

They have done it for France24. They did one version quite a few months ago and one fairly recently. I can't remember if the English or French version changed first.

... having said that, it's only Freesports SD that's currently testing, I guess we may find out in the morning!

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2018)
Could be that Freesports is going on Player. VM still seem to be wanting all HD channels to be "ring fenced" into Full House.

I thought the deal with BT did not run out until 2019 though.

Let's speculate. I think it is one or more of the following:
1. Amazon (under the name of 'Prime Video').
2. Sky UHD channels.
3. Other UHD channels.
4. Sky Atlantic.
It could be other things, such as more streaming services, AMC, etc, but my bet is on 1, 2 or 3 above, for now. I don't think we will get SA until 2019, but you never know!
