Same/Worse Now I'm on 20mb :(

Hello.

I had been having problems with my 10mb connection - it would be fine most of the day (7-10mb speeds), but when about 6-7pm came around, it would drop to 1-2mb, sometimes slower. This had been going on for about a month. I was hoping that it was because of the 20mb, and that when I finally got it, it would be better. How wrong I was.

I finally got 20mb yesterday, about midday. Since then, my speed has been up and down all yesterday and today, ranging from 3mb up to 18mb.

When 6-7pm comes 'round, it's even worse.

Will my connection settle after a few days, or is this the time of crap I can expect from now on?

Think it still early days yet to make predictions of service levels. May be best to wait until the 20Mb roll out completes across the whole country before things can really settle down and we the punters can see what we can expect from the future. There may be just too many instances of 'workmen on the line' whilst these upgrades get switched on.

What Jackson said

.....and don't put your faith in Speedtests. They're useless.

So... what do I put my faith in?
Downloads? They offer the same info as speed tests (up to 1mbs, down to 500kbs, up to 1.3kbs, up down etc.).

Speedtests are homosexual. Transfer rates from a correctly working, effecient source will give you you true connection speed.

If using USB try and make an effort to use Ethernet, instead.

Edit:- Did you mean to imply your transfer rate are showing as bad as speed tests?

I'm saying what I said.
Download speeds are as bad as speed test results.

What modem? Sounds like it could be two things. Modem or Ethernet. Or probably both.

...or... a bad area.

Ambit 250 modem, on Ethernet.
I had an outage about a month ago, and since then I have had bad speeds after 6-7pm, until sometime in the am.

Before that I was getting consistently high speeds, all day.
