Modem mode

When setting this up to connect to a router what LAN port do I need to use on the hub 3.0?

Re: Modem mode

Any LAN port will do. When you are running with your router, the other HUB 3 ports become disabled.

I think you misread the OP's post Seph. He was asking which port on the Hub3. Only one would work ao any is not the answer.

Pip - I stand by my answer. I’m in modem mode, firmware .608, the external router is not connected to port 1. Try it.

Re: Modem mode

Yeah, for the Hub 3 it doesn't really matter. It'll allocate modem mode to a device connected to any port.

Although never tried doing it with more than one device connected, so not sure what happens then.

I’ve tried with a PC; Nothing happens. But I will try putting two AC68U routers on and see what happens! The logos on both might be interesting.

Re: Modem mode

It would be nice if you could use the other ports as a switch, but I'm not sure how that would work.

Re: Modem mode

interesting idea and I think it would definitely be doable but it would require some great software configuration which VM couldn't give two shits about and they would probably break the whole thing in the process.

You would have to disable everything that gets turned off in modem mode such as NAT, firewall and all the router stuff and then I imagine have a completely different piece of software start up just run a "switch mode" on ports 2-4. It would be easy to do and maintain if they kept is completely separate from everything else and didn't try to integrate it into existing software and all they would need to program it to load in tandem with modem mode boot cycle. When you switch to modem mode disable the router etc and bring port 1 up only as gateway access and then as a separate cycle in the boot process activate switch mode and bring up ports 2-4.

Now I think about it though because the switch is just a switch you would have to lose one of the ports by connecting it to your proper router so you are really only going to have two usable ports on it which I suppose would be fine in somebody's bedroom for a pc and printer.

I did that. Hub 3 in modem mode.

1/
Router #1 in port 2 and connected to the Internet.
Router #2 plugged into port 3. Ethernet LEDs flashing but did not get Internet.

2/
Router #1 in port 2;
Router #2 in port 3;
Hub 3 hard reboot.

3/
Router #1 connected to Internet;
Router #2 did not get Internet.

4/
Router #1 log showed on Hub 3 reboot that it bound to 192.168.100.20;
Router #2 log showed on Hub 3 reboot that it bound to 192.168.100.21.
This means that both ports spoke to the Hub 3.

I suspect that if the Hub 3 had been provisioned with CPE=2, that they both would have worked.

A comment from VM would be appreciated.
