Re: U.S Election 2020
I will be amused at the dilemma facing western governments who must be squirming in some sort of despair at the anti-democratic approach that Trump is taking.
The west openly disapproves of Chinese and Russian anti-democratic stuff but is careful not to offend whichever USA president they don't really like.
I suppose they weigh up the pros and cons in terms of expediency as they see it whildt the public, who are kept in ignorance of inner policy determination, look on in bewilderment.

Gore contested the Bush election until December. Was that anti democratic?

It depends what is being contested though.
Gore vs Bush was a court fight over whether a recount should be completed because votes had been missed after the main vote count had been completed and an automatic recount triggered
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_v._Gore
Quote:
Earlier, on December 8, the Florida Supreme Court, by a vote of four to three, ordered a statewide recount of all undervotes, over 61,000 ballots that the vote tabulation machines had missed. The Bush campaign immediately asked the U.S. Supreme Court to stay the decision and halt the recount
|
The current disputes by Trump are about the main counts themselves to exclude votes that are known to exist.

Distinction without difference. The specifics are different but I see no difference in the principle, they don't believe the legitimacy of the count and want verifications.

Of course it was as no matter what political side of ther fence one is on one has to respect the democratic vote because the moment when you do not accept that then a country cannot call itself a fully functioning democracy.

Ultimately though if the institutions prove to hold up then Democracy in America will be fine. In the event Trump loses and still refuses to accept the result then he would still have lost the Presidency, the courts can't just overturn and election, the counts still took place, the networks still declared the winners of each state as reported irrespective of what Trump says.
Trump doesn't control the media, or the courts and can't will himself into another four years IF he loses today/tommorow.
In a way it would prove America's point in that even with someone who refuses the accept the result the institutions which protect Democracy still work.

They will both declare victory and then we will see things play out in the courts. After that who ever wins will be considered illegitimate by the other side and then who knows what will happen.

Well nothing wrong with recounts such as that requested in Wisconsin.
As for the rest of it there it isn't wrong to contest the result if you have legitimate reasons for doing so and without one they won't get much traction in the courts anyway.
What's more concerning is Trump declaring himself the winner and declaring evidence otherwise as fraud without evidence.
I mean he might still win, ironically because they're still counting in Arizona, so all this language will leave a bitter taste for nothing if he does legitimately win.

If Biden can flip Georgia it means it counters the threat of Trump flipping Arizona
