Re: Netflix/Streaming Services
Interesting snippet from the OFCOM online nation report.
https://www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/asse...020-report.pdf
Quote:
The proportion of adults offline is unchanged since 2014 and many have no interest in going online. Over the past five years there has been no change in the incidence of adults who do not use the internet (13% offline in 2019 vs. 14% in 2014).

This is the kind of thing you are dealing with when you try to reduce something to zero by shifting personal preferences alone.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services
I have now received a reply about the poor picture quality on the All4 app. It's disappointing as there is a lot of good content that appeals to me especially the 'Walter Present' European series.

Thank you for your email regarding All 4.
We would advise that HD content is not currently available on the new Virgin app, we had hoped to have it at inception, but the pandemic has delayed this. We do hope to make HD available at some point, but unfortunately we don't have a date at this time.
If you require further information, feel free to email me back or visit www.channel4.com/4viewers/faqs

Did see that YouTube on my iPad seemed to be a lot sharper recently so I guess all the restrictions have been lifted for streaming quality.

Thanks. Shows that it is a cut down version of the full app then - interesting that they should include the name of some of the missing shows and try to redirect viewers away from Virgin Media!

I think you will find that the full version will arrive on our screens a little later this year. Don't forget the Pluto and MTV apps have not arrived yet either.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services
So have been watching Plebs with my son who thinks it’s hilarious until we got to episode 7 Series 3 last night only to find my purchase of series 3 had been written off by Amazon Prime. Only option available was to purchase it again. So I entered chat ....... 40 minutes later they finally believed me even though it’s in my purchase history. I had to repurchase the series and will be refunded. The joys of not really owning anything physical.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services
Got Amazon Profiles today which is a good but overdue move. I'm sure my step-daughter will appreciate not having my viewing affecting her recommendations

I suspect the fibre version of Q is probably not where they want it in order to launch a ‘full fat’ service. The Italian version of the Sky Q Fibre seems a little underpowered - no 4K, no multiroom capability and a maximum of 3 recordings... would they want to launch another low powered strand just as they got rid of the lower tiered Q box?
Looking at the Pocket Lint article, it seems to me that they’re quite happy for satellite to carry the linear load (and handle the free channels) rather than having to build in a tuner and/or negotiate a lot of carriage rights for the all the freeview channels - and by doing that it looks like they can use IP for more apps and even linear channels which makes me think they could leverage tech from Peacock and Xumo - my guess is that IP would be perfect for linear experiences that are much more curated (much like Pluto TV) or even generated by algorithm/AI.
