Put Router to Sleep
Silly question maybe. If you turn your PC off at night as I do, do you power down the router if no-one else needs access to any services.

Re: Put Router to Sleep
There's no obvious need to, its not like it consumes huge amounts of power!

Re: Put Router to Sleep
If it consumes electricity, you may as well turn it off. No harm will be done.

Re: Put Router to Sleep
I power mine down:
1. Because it's wireless and I'm paranoid ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
2. Because it consumes power and I'm skint (not to mention tight) ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
3. Because the King of the Potato People tells me to do it

Re: Put Router to Sleep
And so in conclusion, it is purely a personal thing. There is no problem with settings being lost or anything technical, just an economy or safety reason.

Re: Put Router to Sleep
I leave mine up because it's also my DSL modem so it's easier to leave it running, I leave my switch on too.

Unless you run a server ![Dunce](images/smilies/dunce.gif) As has been stated its purely personal, sometimes my Router can take a while to realise theres a connection to NTL and so sits there for a few minutes thinking about it, its nice to be able to turn my PC on and have a net connection straight away, and I doubt the people who use my IRC server would be too happy if I turned it off every night to go to bed
