My previous post today, gives a solution to how competition should work - rights to all games available to those broadcasters who wish to pay for rights, customer then chooses which supplier to pay based on cost and viewer experience.
What we have at present is a way to fleece the customer.

That would be a great solution, however, very unlikely to happen.

As for streaming, NRL are streaming their games outside of Australia (and presumably New Zealand) likely cost £22pm - cannot see many taking up that particular offer (apart possibly from Aussie bars in London) - apparently there is a possibility of some games being on a platform such as sky

Since when have Sky find it difficult to raise prices for Sky Sports - even with the same number of games?

Sky is having to massively discount prices for Sky Sports to attract people.

Personally, I could live without the PL games on BT at present - however I like to watch Aviva Premier rugby which is on BT so their PL games are a bonus.
I won't be subscribing to any Streamers.
Similarily, I would like to watch the NRL rugby league games but will not pay silly money to watch it on a stream.

The NRL is on Premier Sports there are matches showing this Saturday morning.

Sky shareholders enjoy bigger dividend after profits climb.
Quote:
Sky attracted 365,000 new customers in the period, taking its total to 22.9m. The company said its premium SkyQ boxes, which let viewers watch and record several channels at the same time, are now in 2 million UK and Irish homes. They have just been launched in Italy and are set to arrive in Germany and Austria in the next six months.

So there is - however these are last season's games (Premier Sports held rights for several years up to end of 2017 season).
Clue is in the first aired date!

The link suggests that there will be 2 matches a week on sky - other games will only be streamed.

Having said that, I have not changed my mind that it is more likely that Amazon will go for the EPL the next time around, rather than this time. Not for the reason given here, but because of the sluggish rollout of fast broadband in this country.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
It's nothing to do with broadband it's more to do with the huge sums your required to pay and the fact the games you win can only be shown in this country.

I would remind you that Amazon has about three times as much money to spend than Sky and BT put together. Money is not an issue for Amazon.

We thought that about ESPN when it entered the market and that did not end well, despite the backing of Mickey Mouse
