Help urgently needed

I hope that members can help me on this one.

I have a FORD FUSION 2004
Approx. 8 months ago l bought this vehicle, and everything has been fine apart from a WHITE FILM appearing on the vehicle - NOT frost during the day.

But, l was told to clear the leaves on the car and have a clear airway through the car.

Then suddenly the management light has come on several times over the past four weeks. And the diagnostic state that it is a CRANKSHAFT SENSOR fault. We have paid £90.00 for this to be fixed. But, three days later, it went again. And the mechanic has told us that it was the same sensor again.

Again the mechanic has said its the same fault - again £90.00 and changed the sensor. But the management light has come back on again

We have been to another mechanic who has said that this would NOT be the crankshaft sensor and take it back to the garage where they fixed the fault. The mechanic has said that on a normal machine out of Halfords, the code comes up 338.

BUT, another mechanic has stated that the CRANSHAFT DOES NOT HAVE A sensor.

BUT, the original mechanic has said that its a fault on the DASHBOARD. I have a funny feeling that we are being had by mechanics to make a bit of dosh.

I don't have a lot of cash. So does any member have any ideas what it could be.

On the inside of the glass. Its a deep white film. But goes off when the engine has started

Is it like a "blown" double glazing panel, where condensation can form in between the panels/layers of glass?

No, its just a film that is on the glass and clears when the engine is running. I was told it was caused by a block airway by leaves in the vent at the wiper area

My main concern is the management light.

White mist on the windows sounds like a ventilation problem to me . . is there dampness in the footwells, luggage area? Do you have the aircon on circulation when you drive the car?

Does the car drive or sound any differently? Are you noticing loss of power, higher fuel consumption or any other symptoms?

My daughter bought a car from a 'well known' large franchise which drove and sounded 100% on the test drive. Two days before we were due to collect it, they rang saying the engine management light had come on and it was a timing chain problem. They kept the car for a week and replaced (at their cost) the chain and associated bits n bobs.

A week later the light came back on, car drove and sounded fine so told daughter to ignore it.

11 months later it went for MOT and our local garage diagnosed the rear sensor on the exhaust as the problem . . now it's still running fine with no light on.

All new cars these days have a standard OBD2 diagnostic socket, usually under the dashboard. Amazon do code readers / resetters for as little as £15. You can then read out the code and look it up on the net for yourself. Then you'll know if you're being talen for a ride.

OBD2 location is shown here as heero_yuy says, get a code reader scan and it will give you a code, look it up some readers may allow you to clear the code as well. You can try that and see if it comes back

A mechanic said that there was no crankshaft sensor? Unbelievable. Safe to say you were being had in that instance.

Whoever changed it first time around may not have fitted the correct part or it could be a wiring fault.

Or it could also be the reluctor wheel, which is basically a toothed ring which spins around with the end of the crankshaft and sends a signal to the crankshaft position sensor which tells the ECU the position of TDC and how fast the crankshaft is spinning. If one of the teeth are broken then it might return a fault code. Easy enough to check with the timing cover off.
