Pluscom WR-AR2317 Router getting started problems!
Hi - recently purchased the above router so I can use a laptop downstairs. Not really knowing much about any of this sort of thing I proceeded to follow the instructions and connected up.
However, that's as far as I can get and my ntl modem cannot access the internet now.
Have been over and over the connections, can't really get them wrong and there are only two leads to connect!
I have wired my modem into the WAN adapter of the router and wired my PC NIC connection to the modem LAN, and according to the instructions I should be connected to the internet. Sadly I'm not!
Have to say am baffled and only option is to call out an IT person to assist, which at, this time of year, is a cost I'm hoping not to have to pay out!
If anyone has any ideas what the problem could be I would be most grateful! Am wondering whether the router is faulty, but all the lights appear to be flashing where they are supposed to .....?

Basics first. When you swapped your connection from computer <> modem to computer <> router <> modem, did you power off the modem?

As Rob said, have you restarted the modem and the router?

Yes, everything was all powered off and I switched it all back on in the order the instructions gave.

When you have it all connected, can you browse to your router's admin pages and log into it using internet explorer?

Re: Pluscom WR-AR2317 Router getting started problems!
For some weird reason, some instructions say to power the router on first then the modem.
But turn it all off, turn on the modem, I'll assume it's an Ambit, wait for SYNC and RDY to go solid.
Turn on the router, wait a few mins then turn on computers.
9 times out of 10 this fixes the issue.
What IP address does your computer have?
Can you access the configuration page of the router. The address for it and username and password should be with the instructions.
There should be a page in there that will show you the IP address the router is getting from the modem.

With the router on, computer on and connected to the router, what IP address do you get?

This maybe a stupid question, but is the wireless turned on on your laptop?

Wireless is turned on on laptop, but I can't see my router on the list of available ones. I've not really paid much attention to the laptop as I can't connect to the internet on my main pc I assume the wireless is not working properly yet. It's all very confusing!

You said
"I have wired my modem into the WAN adapter of the router and wired my PC NIC connection to the modem LAN, and according to the instructions I should be connected to the internet. Sadly I'm not!"
The modem ethernet cable goes to the WAN on router.
The ethernet cable goes from the PC NIC to the LAN on the router.
To get your ip address when connected this way go to Start > Run > (type) cmd >
ok > In black window type ipconfig press enter.
This should show you the ip address assigned to the nic.

Just double checked, the ethernet cables have been connected up as per last post!
IP addresses showing are: Ethernet adapter local area connection 192.168.0.1 and also Ethernet adapter local area connection 3 is 86.1.40.222.

Re: Pluscom WR-AR2317 Router getting started problems!
When I disconnect the modem usb (which I shouldn't need after I've set the router up) I only get one IP address 192.160.0.1 and the local area connection 3 is no longer there. Not sure if that is relevant!
