Just got around to booting into Ubuntu using a USB pen and still cant delete the files.

Tinky it doesnt work, u choose to delete them and nothing happens. Its annoying me lol.

Have you run chkdsk on the disk ?

Sounds a bit like corrupt directory entries, which that will often correct.

Any clue as to what these files are?

You could also open command prompt as admin and enter

DEL /F /Q /A C:\\Users\\Your username\\The location of the file\\Name of the file you wish to delete

check the ownership of the file if you haven't already;

1. Locate the file
2. right click
3. properties
4. select the security tab
5. advanced
6. look towards the top where it says Owner
7. click Change if it is isn't you
8. type your username and OK it
9. click OK
10. click OK again
11. right click the file again
12. properties
13. select the security tab
14. check your account has Full Control
15. add this permission if it doesn't exist
16. OK back to the file
17. Try deleting it again

Try booting into safe mode and try some of the 3rd party apps as suggested.

Try renaming the files that won't delete or changing the extension format then do the above. (If it allows)

It could help knowing the name of the files and extensions.

Unless it is some kind of virus that just duplicates when it gets deleted, it seems weird that all the suggestions here haven't worked.

can't you post the filenames, if its some kind of malware you generally get regedit specific fixes etc, even the program name that started it all off.

Unless you can clean boot a copy of ubuntu or similar you'll always get them back.

If you have FastStart on then Linux won't open partitions R/W.

It would be good to know the file names - maybe they are files that Windows creates for some purpose. (Or some other proggy or malware).

Are these files on an NTFS drive? (Likely)

If so they might have the read only or system attributes set. Windows and Linux both honour these and if set will prohibit deletion. The attribute must first be cleared before deletion is permitted.

Using the attrib comand from the CLI can be used to clear these:



There are some other attributes that are not shown in the standard CMD window and require an extended command processor (such as Take Command) to set and clear:



Be very, very sure that these files are NOT system critical.

You may need to run the command processor in super admin mode:

Logged in as admin and open it with full admin permissions. (Right click "run as" select administrator)

Well ive managed to get rid of the files.

I copied the drive onto an external drive and the 2 files refused to copy across. After doing this i did a format of the drive and put all the data back, i know it was a long winded way of doing this but i just couldnt get rid of them.
