wireless problems

Hi Forum,am a newbie on this site and a little green when it comes to computers etc.
We currently have Virgin broadband with a separate external modem that virgin recently sent us when upgrading our box.
We have since moved our desktop upstairs and have a laptop which we use around the house.
We purchased a netgear wgr614 router, but we have been experiencing sporadic problems ever since setting all this up and don't know if its the modem upgrade, the router or something we have done whilst setting it all up and was hoping one of you guys could point me in the right direction.
What happens is that,we fire up the laptop and most of the time it connects ok to the internet.after a couple of minutes use it then kicks you out losing connection between the router and computer.Occasionally by refreshing the page it sometimes re-connects,but the only way to get back on is to re-start the computer.
Am hoping its something very simple and hope that one of you helpful people can point me in the right direction.
Many thanks in advance.Mazz

to the forums...

It could be interference on the wireless channel you're using, either from other routers nearby or a DECT phone in the house.

Try changing the wireless channel the router's using to one at least 3 numbers away e.g if it's set to 11 change to 8, or if on 6 change to 3...
