No different from other countries where Eleven Sports launched online before securing cable carriage. Liberty Global's Telenet and UPC Poland both carry Eleven Sports, the more content they add the harder it will be for the likes of Virgin to ignore them.

Well one remains to be convinced by that as perhaps they can give us some figures on how many customers they have attracted online thus so far in this country and one suspects it ain't that many and certainly not enough to attract platform carriage from Sky and Virgin IMO.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

ITV continue to experience problems with their streaming services. Perhaps they should get a move on with the BBC's SVOD project so they can tap into the Beeb's expertise in this field. ITV do seem to have made a pig's ear of their on demand service, which is inexcusable given how much they are charging for it.

Nice to see that Virgin Media fared a lot better with ITV Box Office than other services, including Sky. Did anyone viewing this via Virgin experience any problems?

What more evidence do you need?
You keep championing all these services going alone via the streaming method over the last few years you've mentioned HBO selling direct Showtime and all the movie studios when their deals expire with Sky how costly is that likely to be when many people have all this currently included in their bundles ?

Sky Cinema can be added on Sky for £10 a month with an 18 month commitment and costs £9.99 on Now TV how would people save money if each studio went direct to consumer on it's own.

Both Netflix and Amazon use the same model as Sky and Virgin a mixture of their own content mixed with third party content the only difference being it's all delivered On Demand rather than a mixture of linear and On Demand.

Do we think VM would make moves to get Eleven Sports added soon in time for El Clasico next month? They could spin it as all the football in one place!

Argentina Superliga please. I'm surprised that none of the networks have picked the rights up for UK consumption yet. Boca v River Superclasico is always a decent draw.

It's only more expensive if you take all these streaming services and add them to your satellite pay channels. As you know, my view is that the conventional linear pay tv channels will disappear over the next decade or so as more and more people migrate to the streaming alternatives.

In future, there are likely to be bundles of streaming services rather than bundles of channels. Hayu is already part of Virgin's Full House bundle.

No I'm on about subscribing to streaming services once they all go it alone as you keep asking for.

Well, as things stand they are cheaper and have better quality content on them and that’s why the streaming alternative is so compelling.

Incidentally, I’m not ‘asking’ for this, just stating the obvious about which way all this is going.

Your opinion but not the opinion of the majority.

Er, how do you define the majority, Den, and how do you know this?

Can I just gently remind you that the BBC are preparing for this very eventuality (the closure of linear channels) in relation to the TV licence review in 2028 - just 10 years away.

Or if you are talking about the 'quality', perhaps you should list the programmes on pay tv that you would put into that category and compare this against what is available on Netflix and Amazon.

Frankly, unless you are into reality TV and dumbed down crap, I don't understand how you could possibly come to such a conclusion.

I am very happy to consider alternative evidence, but haven't heard it yet.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Has anything been published in regards to the success of bbc three since it closed as a linear channel and moved to streaming? This would be the best measuring stick possible. A channel who's demographic is millenials. Did it become more popular? Did it get more views?

I would imagine it would be disappointing as there is not much to promote it, at least that I have seen.

That doesn't mean by any legitimate construction, that streaming will not be a success.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

I would be quite happy for all football to go down the streaming only route, particularly the Premier League.

The whole punditry circus and fluff show that surrounds the current linear tv model is completely unnecessary imho and the fact that the likes of Shearer, Lineker et al are paid a small fortune for providing what's no more than meaningless filler at the expense of the licence payer (or subscriber) is unpalatable to say the least.
