Long enough that I don’t see a massive rush for anyone to spend £1.5bn a year to find out.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
The European finals will be available free on Virgin Media.

All customers of UK multiplay operator Virgin TV will be able to watch this year’s UEFA Champions League and Europa League final free of charge.
Four Premier League sides will compete in the final of the two biggest European competitions meaning that millions of British football fans will be scrambling to watch the action.
Virgin Media says it has made the matches as easy to watch as possible, making both available to all of its customers regardless of whether they are subscribed to BT Sport.

More good news for football fans.
https://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2019...fa-cup-rights/
The BBC and ITV have agreed to share the rights to the FA Cup from 2021.
The four-year deal means an end to the current arrangement that has seen the BBC share the rights to the cup competition with BT Sport.
ITV will broadcast around 20 matches per season from the first round through to the final, which will be shared with the BBC.
BBC Sport will have coverage of 18 matches per season together with highlights and online clips.
Niall Sloane, ITV Director of Sport, said: “We are delighted to be able to broadcast the FA Cup once again. We are particularly pleased that we shared The FA’s vision of a completely free-to-air competition and look forward to bringing new viewers all the along the road to Wembley Stadium.”
The BBC will have first and fourth picks of matches in the first, third and fifth rounds as well first pick of the semi-finals, with ITV having the first and fourth picks in the second and fourth rounds plus the quarter-finals.
In March, the BBC announced a new four-year deal with the Football Association to show the FA Cup until 2025.

You never know, Jeremy might nationalise Sky, make it free and buy everyone a nice new dish to boot. He's generous like that, with our money!
Seriously, we didn't know how lucky we were in the 'Grandstand' and 'World of Sport' days!

The remarks are from the Commercial Director of F1, so do carry slightly more weight than say an opinion piece from a digital marketing company.
F1 is generally a procession round a track however is a huge global brand with significant sponsorship income and investment. It has disproportionate status, but status relies on people recognising it as such. It loses global recognition if nobody can see it.

But can you see the BBC , ITV and C4 pay what Sky are paying currently?

No, but it’s not a zero sum game. The same ratings drops applied across all the territories F1 broadcasts to and you are talking about losing global recognition of the brands involved.
F1 isn’t like football where events like the FA Cup, World Cup, European Championships and internationals allow the casual viewer to dip in and out.

Purely selfish but I'd like F1 back on Freeview for all it's fans , as someone who watches very little of it I'd sooner see Sky spend it's money elsewhere.

Rather have my toenails extracted with rusty pliers than watch those silly cars go round and round for no good reason .. Just watch your local ring road if that entertains
However the Cricket World Cup and Ashes not being on terrestrial is a crime...

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
Rolland Garros is now in 4K/HDR (for V6 customers with correct setup) via Red Button on channels 250, 521, 522 and 999.

Two problems with that
Dedicating air time to broadcast whole games just won't happen
Terrestrial channels won't pay the going rate even if they are prepared to do the above.
Best hopes are to get highlights packages of all sports on terrestrial tv - however they need to be on at peak viewing times to attract viewers not 11pm and later as they used to be.
