Abolish half of them and get Lords he appointed to do the other half. Again a staple of a healthy, functioning democracy.

Re: Partygate & Beergate discussion
One needs to keep lookout for Royal Standard appearing above Buckingham Palace today, if the Queen is in residence, he’s going.

Re: Partygate & Beergate discussion
Beth Rigby alluded to something last night I don’t know what % chance it has of occurring
But if as expected the 1922 changes the rules next week and Johnson loses the vote
Boris could say fine, I’ll quit as leader of the tories but I’m staying on as PM

BREAKING: Signs of splits even inside No10: one source says parts of Downing Street preparing a resignation statement but not clear the PM would read it and others insist Boris Johnson pressing on - Sam Coates, Sky News.

The only mechanism now to rid of this stubborn Prime Minister, is for Parliament itself, Starmer could himself raise a no confidence vote, I reckon there would be two thirds requirement, to oust him, there is still the little issue of him going to Buckingham Palace to resign and naming a successor.

There's more chance of him going to Buckingham Palace and requesting a general election than resigning.

This is the thing, one has to go to the Queen and willingly to resign and name a successor, but this is a precedent expectation, to traditionally and seamlessly, pass on the transfer of power.
Could we see the Queen, step in and rarely use her authority, something she never wants to do, but has to, we’re in exceptional circumstances.

I still think it's not a constitutional crisis. What parts of it have been tested yet? The notion the PM should go when the men in grey suits tell them to do so may be a Tory Party tradition but behind that tradition is the implication that if they don't do so they'll be booted out anyway. Johnson has decided that rather than go quietly he'll go kicking and screaming.
But in theory, the Tories will have their vote, he loses and he resigns. If he were to ignore the results of that vote and/or try to call an election then it's a constitutional crisis.
This is just weird and a little bit a funny so far.

I wonder if this could be his final throw of the dice, attempt to call a GE hope he gets the huge mandate he had previously
Spitballing, as I don’t know is led this is achievable

Yes it is a constitutional crisis, I really don’t know how you can say it’s not, right now, as of this morning, the process of government grinds to a halt. Nothing practical in these departments can be done, every one of them is in disarray. As he tries to fill them, with new, completely inexperienced people trying to get on. This is not just harming the Tory party, it’s harming the entire country, that’s a Constitutional crisis right there.

"If the prime minister were to seek to cling on... he would be committing the worst of all sins in public life which is to bring Her Majesty into politics and embarrassing Her Majesty the Queen."
Conservative MP @neill_bob tells @AasmahMir "Boris Johnson is acting irrationally".

Another source in government suggests signs of a PM statement being prepared
But a Tory source cautions figures like Andrew Griffith telling him to cling on and not to listen to other voices

Re: Partygate & Beergate discussion
2022 Boris Johnson needs to take heed of 2010 Boris Johnson:
Quote:
"The whole thing is unbelievable. As I write these words, Gordon Brown is still holed up in Downing Street. He's like some illegal settler in the Sinai desert." Boris Johnson, writing in May 2010.

If it was me i would sack the dissenters on mass before they resign , the anti Boris/anti every thing mob in the 1922 want chucking out of the party, i would immediately reinstate the triple lock with back pay, and chuck a brick through Sunaks window.
