What would members want to happen now if it were their loved ones killed by this stupidity ?

Quote from The Sun: Iran’s ambassador to the UK today dismissed the use of bulldozers to clear the crash site as "absolutely absurd", Sky News reports.
But the images have been verified by UK investigative website Bellingcat, whose painstaking work linked downed MH17 to Russia back in 2014.
Bellingcat investigator Giancarlo Fiorella told Channel 4 News: “Those images (of the bulldozer) we were able to geolocate to the crash site.
“I found them to be really distressing because this is potentially the scene of a crime.
“If this was a shoot-down event, you don’t want to disturb the crash site before a thorough investigation can be conducted and I’m not sure one had been conducted.”
It follows Iranian claims the two black boxes – which contain data and cockpit communications from the plane and are meant to be indestructible – had been damaged.
Iranian aviation authorities claim parts of their memory had been lost.

So bulldoze the site to remove evidence and erase the recordings on the black boxes. As clumsy a coverup as there is likely to be. They're fooling no one.

This changes things, what most are seeing as a terrible mistake is now looking like a deliberate act

Re: U.S Assassinates Top Iranian General
There's always the possibility that the USAF are operating their new toys in Iranian airspace with impunity. Stealthy aircraft aren't completely invisible to search radar so if a missile was fired then it could have been at a "legitimate" target. This would inevitably end very badly if the air defence system didn't have the ability to actually track the target.
Imagine the loss of face if the Iranians had to admit that they cannot defend their own airspace against enemy reconnaissance assets.

I think it was a mistake. There’s no way they intended to bring down a civilian airliner. The cover up is inevitably what occurs in dictatorial (or in this case theocratic) regimes where the official legend is that the leadership cannot make mistakes.

Correct, America just gives out medals when such accidents occur How they thought they'd get away with saying it was a coincidence is beyond me though.

Re: U.S Assassinates Top Iranian General
It is a mistake of immeasurable incompetence.
And as someone that has watched every episode of every season of aircrash investigation and is a qualified armchair expert, bull dozing a crash site is a ultimate no no, and claiming the voice and data recorders are damaged screams “cover up”.
There have been planes flown full speed into mountains that have disintegrated into atoms and the black boxes have survived.

Re: U.S Assassinates Top Iranian General
I've seen black boxed roasted to hell such that even the PCBs are toast but the chips were recovered, read in a jig and still had valid data in them. The pictures of the recovered boxes show that they're hardly touched so the claim of data loss is not credible IMO.
More likely the Iranians are busy corrupting the stored data before they release them.

Re: U.S Assassinates Top Iranian General
Having watched all the posted videos, the wreckage appears to be spread out over a fairly wide area, and debris appeared to rain down, which would indicate an explosion in the air, rather than a crash due to engine failure or other reason.

Re: U.S Assassinates Top Iranian General
Their silly coverup story had been blasted out of the water so they had to come clean.

Exactly this. Their tightly controlled revolutionary bubble hit the real world and popped. Wonder what happens next ... they’ll still be hoping to close this down ASAP. The admission is about damage limitation, not embracing liability.

Re: U.S Assassinates Top Iranian General
I'm sure we will all have the opportunity to see the trial and subsequent punishments shown on all the worlds media outlets, for once I doubt things will be kept behind closed doors.
The people on trial though, may not be entirely the ones who screwed up.

Re: U.S Assassinates Top Iranian General
A guy I follow on Social Media (Stonekettle) posted this, and I totally agree with him (he had over 20 years service in the US Navy, specialising in Information Warfare and War Planning).
Quote:
This is what happens in war.
People die. Not just the soldiers, but the innocents too.
Especially the innocent.
I'm not excusing Iran, just the opposite. But this what happens when nations go to war, there's nothing glorious about it, war is brutal, inhuman, and immoral.
And this is the price. Right here.
Those who start these conflicts, over politics, ideology, religion, resources, whatever idiotic thing, the rich and powerful, THEY are rarely the ones who have to pay -- at least not until thousands of innocents are slaughtered first.
And that slaughter, that is the cost of war.
Death is the price, and the bill always comes due. War a damned dirty business and make no mistake about it.
Perhaps if Americans actually understood this, really understood it, instead of regarding war as some sort of sporting event, they'd be less eager to have one every few years.
