Most of the new streamers won't be launching internationally for at least a year, as they launch in America first, so Netflix still probably has at least two years before any real competition starts and even longer before any impact will be felt from them.

As for third party content being removed, as far as I know this only concerns the American Netflix at the moment. Friends and The Office will still be on the intentional version, so again no impact there.

Netflix said last that they believe it was due to a lack of hit shows which is why they missed their numbers, but price rices also hit numbers too. As Stranger Things has only come out now, their next quarter should be significantly better and if its not, "then we have a problem Houston..."

Remember Netflix will be saving a lot of money by NOT having to pay to screen Friends, The Office, etc

Yes, but that's not the answer to the question he asked.

By definition that excludes the rest of the customers on the Virgin platform.

Anyone on the street can get Prime. He's specifically referring to the cost for a subset of households - Virgin Media subscribers.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

I'm pretty sure the shows you mention are being pulled globally although have to confess to not being 100%.

The Office will be on NBC Universals service which will be available to Sky subscribers so it would be odd if it's only US.

What about ITV and BBC are they still going to distribute on Netflix when Britbox launches here ?

They will also not have a huge captive audience anymore for followers of those hugely popular series.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

Surely by the time those shows are gone from Netflix, everyone who wanted to see them again will have done so?

There are of course bound to be those who want permanent access, as if it were a DVD library, but then many of them would probably have already bought the box set.

While yes, rationally you'd think this.

However all television is littered with repeats and evidence suggests people watch the same thing over and over. While not the case now, the Simpsons is a previous example of the same show being repeated daily.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

Regarding Netflix the information we've seen (quiet day in the office lol) is Netflix new subscriber base has slowed down, so rather than it being Netflix losing subscribers it is more of a case of the level of new subscribers joining Netflix is what has slowed down.
This is to be expected with any subscription based service they all get a slower new subscriber base eventually.
Another thing with content such as friends and the office leaving NETFLIX USA next year Netflix will have the money from those shows to play with too, i must point out it is only Netflix USA that is affected, those shows are remaining on other regions for now.

Unless, of course, they paid a package deal for those shows up front...

Sunk cost, no further savings.

I see you are talking riddles again. I have answered the question. In case it's not obvious, if you are a Virgin customer but do not subscribe to Amazon, you won't get the Christmas time Premier football. Therefore you won't pay for it.

If you are a Virgin customer who subscribes to Amazon Prime, you will get the football and you won't pay extra for it either.

There, is that clear enough for you? If not, please tell me what it is that is confusing you.

I'm not talking in riddles: just pointed out you didn't answer the question asked, which is why you've added qualifications into the explaination above. The answer as originally posted doesn't address the question at all.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

Do we know if we're getting the full Prime Video features yet? I know I only have to wait until monday to find out but just interested if anything has been announced.

By full I mean, Prime video and rent/purchase newer movies too

Thanks

If it's same as Youview app it'll be the full Amazon video service including rentals/purchases.
Speaking of Amazon i had a very interesting document that suggests that soon we'll be able to view google video purchases on the Amazon video and Amazon purchases on the google video app.
