ITV have won back the rights to show England men's team matches from Channel 4

The deal from September 2024 to June 2028 will see ITV broadcast all friendlies, qualifiers and Nations League matches

I thought ITV already were showing the men's matches...oh you mean the pansies game with the wrong shaped (round) ball.

It’s a bit odd for the Premiership clubs to hold off that long. By the time 270 games are being televised they’ll have essentially normalised games not kicking off at 3pm.

The average season ticket holder might get what? 3?

Unless it’s being driven by the Championship clubs who could get more revenue from streaming their own games.

Is it perhaps timed for when the Premiership and EFL TV rights are sold together?

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

The argument against 3pm games being shown live on tv is that it would effect the match attendances at lower league clubs, but surely those that want to go to an actual game will go regardless? I've not been to a game of any sort for over 20 years simply because it got to costly.

I agree, it dates back to a time when people thought the biggest games would clash and attending football was cheap. In practice now the biggest games are played at other times anyway.

It will be, but if it was simply about the Premiership clubs maximising TV revenue then the Spanish approach of moving every game to another time slot would work better, and fans would barely notice.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

My local team have just gone up to the National League and show the 12.30pm and 5.30pm games live in the clubhouse.

I do think that having Manchester United or Liverpool on tv at 3pm on a Saturday would hit my local teams gates with people staying at home - especially on a wet or cold day.

There are plently on non-3pm Saturday time slots available to the EPL.

Once you drop of of the EFL and EPL - remember that many of the players have non-football full-time jobs and have limited time to actually play games.

I'm guessing TNT sports contract with Virgin Media is up this summer based on my maths? I assume it'll no longer be in the Max package which some will be delighted at (but the bills wont go down anyway) and others will be annoyed at what will be like a £25 price hike to subscribe if they wanted it

From memory, a TNT Sport subscription would be £18 on VM, Vince.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Five packages of 42-65 matches each are available. Four packages can be awarded to one bidder. A record 270 matches are available.

Some predictions from Francois Godard of Enders Analysis on the Premier League TV rights, in The Sunday Times.

1. Sky will retain at least three of the five packages. It will be reluctant to cede one of its weekend slots, so could even try for four.

2. The greatest competition will be between TNT Sports and DAZN. TNT will try to hold on to its Saturday 12.30pm slot whilst DAZN will try and get some rights too but has a history of bidding sensibly.

3. Without the Premier League, TNT Sports would cease to be a premium service and would need to reduce its price.

4. In terms of other potential bidders, it is unlikely that Amazon will want to spend sufficiently to retain Premier League rights. YouTube is seen as a “long shot”.

Personally I hope the Premier League rights are decided up between Sky and TNT but doubt it will work out like that.
