5.1 sound on Strictly Come Dancing?

Is anyone else not getting 5.1 surround sound on the current series of SCD? It usually does have a 5.1 feed, but I'm not getting it this time round.

At first I thought it might be a problem with my AV set up, but other channels (C5, Sky movies etc.) all continue to provide surround sound on certain programmes.

Are there any other BBC-1 programmes which usually carry surround sound?

They are short-staffed due to Covid this year. It's possible that setting up and monitoring 5.1 is beyond their capabilities this year. Don't forget it's a massive, live show - there has to be a significant resource issue in it.

Yes, that was a thought I had when I first encountered the change. I know it takes more personnel as well as equipment to make the 5.1 mix a reality...

Re: 5.1 sound on Strictly Come Dancing?

SCD does NOT list as being 5.1 for the current series.

Today (Sun 15th Nov) the following are listed as 5.1 on BBC1: Blue Planet (5pm), His Dark Materials (8.10pm), Small Axe (9pm)
On BBC2: Tennis (2pm), Heroes (12.30am)

ozsat - thank you! That is v. helpful. As a matter of interest, where did you find the info? I can't see on the VM guide where it indicates 5.1.

Re: 5.1 sound on Strictly Come Dancing?

I get tv listings direct - I'm not sure of anyone publishing details of 5.1.

It use to be on BBC website - but isn't anymore.

It also use to be on Digigude - but they too no longer carry it.

Re: 5.1 sound on Strictly Come Dancing?

IMHO sound is the biggest problem with it, especially when the crowd can't clap in time to the music.

You’d love it this year ... there’s no crowd. Just a couple of dozen production crew. They make a lot of noise mind.

Before the new lockdown they did have more people there:

Strictly Come Dancing does have an audience this year, but spaces in the studio have been reduced to adhere to strict social distancing.

Tickets are allocated to family groups of four people from the same household or social bubble, and they are seated together at cabaret tables or in balcony seating.

I know

Mrs was in the audience a few years ago, she’s still in a couple of secret Facebook groups where all the grisly details of this stuff get shared and picked apart

Personally I'd rather listen to Bieber than Strictly.

Agreed, not being in 5.1 sound is the least of the program's problems as far as I'm concerned.

Re: 5.1 sound on Strictly Come Dancing?

BT Sport have dropped Atmos from their live EPL coverage while there are no fans.

I think that the empty arenas are causing unwanted effects to the listener.

I find the fake fan sound very annoying.

I've got used to it now, and find it better than listening to the players shouting.
