There is enough room to get around 3 sides, the foot of the bed is against the wall, on which I have put the remaining DVDs & books.

The bed will need to be moved to allow my mum to see TV from the bed, and back to get to both sides.

Going to see my sister for lunch and do a couple of DIY jobs:

Hang a large mirror and fit a new float valve to the toilet.

Fair exchange.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Well we are 1 step closer to getting my mum home, it looks like my mum and dad will have to pay for full costs of her care, as they have joint accounts they are effectively taking half.

But at least she is coming home, she is very low and down.

My sister asked a guy at work who has given her loads of free advice, he suggested that my sister and me are made Lasting Power of Attorney so if needed we can take control rather than someone behind a desk.

Yep, I normally see my sister several times a week, but now it's 2/3 times a month.

I did sit in her garden when we were told that you could sit in another houses garden, luckily the weather was good.

When we were to sit inside my sister helped me paint a room so my mum can come home.

Glad to here your mum is coming home.

You (and your sister) can do all the Power Of Attorney stuff (there are two kinds, health & welfare and property & financial affairs) online at Gov.UK - that's what my wife and her brother did for her mum.

https://www.gov.uk/power-of-attorney

Good luck

Glad you are getting her home sweetie, it's been a long haul for all of you and I am sure being with you, and hopefully all her family when regulations are relaxed, will help her a lot.

Having the LPA will also take away a lot of the messing about in the future. I never realised how helpful it was to have them when I needed to fall back on the ones we set up to deal with all my Father's affairs. We set up the LPAs well before they were needed and he always said it reasurred him that some one he trusted would look after all his affairs.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Glad to hear Hom3r that you're getting your mum home. Better for her to be in familar surroundings.

My sister got power of attorney when my mother's dementure go so bad she couldn't handle day-to-day bills etc. As she used to work for the bank she was best placed to know what to do.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Just been away on a break for 4 days/3 nights with my wife, daughter and grandson at Conwy/Anglesey - lovely part of the country, where I hadn’t spent much time before.

We were based in Deganwy, and visited Conwy (just over the bridge), Llandudno, Bangor, Beaumaris, Colwyn Bay, and popped in to visit the Welsh Mountain Zoo on the way home - my 1 year old grandson’s first visit to a zoo.

We had a lovely relaxing time, and he was very well behaved.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Well after 195 days (28 weeks).

My mum is finally coming home.

We have the hospital bed and air mattress, we bought a 28" TV and Splitter so she can watch the same as us on her TV.

She will be in bed all the time unless we are able to source a compact hoist as the room isn't massive.

I will have to get up around 3am to move her into a new position, but as I'm not currently working it isn't going to be a problem, but I will have to adapt.

She also currently doesn't have a good appetite, but after I cook her some decent home cooked food she should fatter herself up and get her appetite back.

Talking with my sister she will be better to eat little and often.

Her trouble is not only diabetic she also had her gallbladder removed so has to be carful eating fatty and sugary food.

The annoying thing is she has too much money so will have to pay the full amount for the first month which is for 2 carers (she need this) 4 times a day, a mere £4360. next month after she gets her money re-evaluated should drop to £40 a month

We asked to see the report, and were told "the guy who wrote is ill at the moment, so we can't get hold of it". We said no work would be done until we could view the report, so they withdrew their offer late last week.

I organised an EICR report, and there were some shortfalls - the house fuse box didn't have a RCD fitted, and the same for the garage, and the lights in the house bathroom weren't IP rated (all of these shortfalls were C2 and C3), so I have arranged for the electrician to come and resolve these issues next week, at a price of £330 (bit of a difference to £7,500). The electrician said as it's a bungalow, if he had had to rewire it, it would have required none to very little decoration, as all the wiring goes through the loft and then down the partition walls.

Anyway, on to the good news - we had five viewings last night, three weren't interested, and the other two made offers at the asking price - the estate agent told them both had bid the same amount, and one of the viewers raised the offer by £5k, and we accepted and took it off the market (there is no chain - the buyer is purchasing it for her mother, as she lives locally, and is moving her mother from rented accommodation elsewhere).
Update on the updated update - exchanged today, so a glass or two may be raised tonight...
