Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

Quest and Quest Red are to go FTA on satellite and join Freesat on channels 167 and 169.

The timeshift +1 channels won't be available on Freesat, but the gap suggests that they intend to add them in the future.

Looks to me like Discovery have managed to get a similar deal as UKTV after their carriage dispute to unshackle their free channels from Sky ie the parent channel is allowed to go onto Freesat, but the +1's remain encrypted for now.

I wonder if VM will put these into their free M/Player packs so that their 'free' TV pack customers can benefit from this change??

When Really went FTA, this was moved down to the lowest pack, but the latest Freeview additions look to be in M+/Mix.

If we say that Netflix is £6 per month, that works out at 50p a week off over the 18 months!

Anyone who is definitely staying with VM might as well go for it, but this would leave you locked in for 18 months, meaning VM cancellation fees if you move to a non VM cabled area and not in a position to be able to negotiate a discount.

Does this relate to one or more new channels (or streaming services) of any worth coming to VM or will it be another damp squib?

But the deal is less than 6 months if you want UHD. £6 x 6 is £36 the uhd is £9 a month so 4 months netflix, also uhd already on TiVo

I pay around about £5.70pm for uhd netflix it takes a bit of work but you get a brazilian vpn use that to sign up to netflix it'll accept your normal debit/credit card once done you can watch netflix as normal atm for me it's uk, usa and canada the others are still being worked on by my vpn provider.
But you can still sign up via brazilian netflix (brazil vpn).

Some of us are uncomfortable with these dodgy practices, theone!

But ask yourself why should we pay more for less content? UK netflix has a lot less content than USA or Canada yet we pay more.
If Netflix did fairer pricing then people wouldn't go through these dadgy practices.

Yes, I see that, but personally, I don't want to go there.

I can't help thinking that there will be consequences one day. At the moment, with vpns, people have a sense of security, but ultimately, I believe a way will be found (if it hasn't already) to track what you are doing, and all these past gateway busting methods will leave a permanent digital footprint.

I prefer to sleep at night!

With the content, I'm not 100%, but could it be something to do with how shows are licensed in the UK? Some shows may be tied to an individual broadcaster before it is allowed on Neftlix. Just a guess...

Good move, only interested in the cricket. Shouldn't have to pay for Premiership football boredom.

Cricket can be accessed in more ways then just Sky.
