Correct signal & power levels?
Hi there!
I jus wanted to ask if my levels are within the correct spec?
I used to know them off by heart but since the Shubs, I havent got a clue anymore.
I am in the PE3 area of Peterborough, am on 350Mb (was 300Mb homeworks) and I have the original white Shub 3.0.

Re: Correct signal & power levels?
I believe the downstream power levels are meant to be between -6 to +10 dBmv, so yours are low. Do you have an attenuator on the back of the Hub? If so, take it off. If not, you'll need an engineer out to adjust it at the cab.
The upsteam power level is in spec.

Yes, I have a 10dB FPA, i shall swap it out for the 6dB FPA I have and then see what my levels are like.
Are the upstream levels ok?
Thanks for your reply

Re: Correct signal & power levels?
Yep, upstream is fine. Anything below 50dBmv is good, not sure if there is a lower limit but yours are in spec.
This thread by Sephiroth is quite useful, if you want some light reading

Re: Correct signal & power levels?
I would remove the fpa , you don't need one

Re: Correct signal & power levels?
On the subject of power levels I've noticed something strange with mine.
The levels vary greatly between channels.
They range fro - 3.9 to + 6 between the 20 channels.
Is this normal. SH3 in ode mode

Re: Correct signal & power levels?
Check the security of the connectors. Large variations on different frequencies can be due to the connection being improperly terminated.

Re: Correct signal & power levels?
Thanks heero.
I did have a splitter on for the V6.
I have taken that off and fed the cable direct to router but it was still the same.
Put a new connector on the cable but still the same.
I will have a look in the brown box outside.

Re: Correct signal & power levels?
I thought there was normally a slope on the power levels?

Quite right. The downsatream is incorrectlyu sloped and SNR (as represented by RxMER) is poor on some channels.

I presume I have a bad connection/cable somewhere or does this need a call out?

Imo, yes. Others in your locality should also be experiencing difficulty.
