Wi-Fi & Shrub3

Hi All.
Over last few years, lots of years, I never had a problem with Wi-Fi in any part of my house.

I got the Shrub 3 less than 6ft from my printers, I got the T-Link power lines upstairs & downstairs, but over the last Month it keeps Dropping out. Today I could get NO Wi-Fi on my Phone even from 6 inches away let alone 6 ft or a room away. Printer keeps losing the connection that i had to put it on USB. I then tripped over the F**g cable Grrrrrr!!!

What on earth is Virgin Up to..Never had this problem in 20 years of being with them...Any Good answers to this Virgin Rubbish that keeps putting prices up..

---------- Post added at 18:20 ---------- Previous post was at 18:12 ----------

Just did a check, 5th one in two weeks and it says this.
If you still think something is wrong, please check the following
1 Your broadband connection is working.
2 Gateway IPv4 address is valid.
3 Your broadband connection is down. (can't be down if I'm typing in here) lol
4 The temperature of your Hub 3.0 is normal.

A Fix needed before I chuck this Shrub 3 out the window..
Thanks.

Re: Wi-Fi & Shrub3

You've been here long enough to know what the correct solution is:

Put any kit that VM provide in modem mode. Buy yourself a decent router.

I have the SH1 in modem mode and use a Buffalo router. The wifi works right out through several double thickness walls way into the garden for full fat TV streams.

Re: Wi-Fi & Shrub3

I know it is frustrating to hear this but I have no problems with Superhub 3 WiFi in a 3 storey pre-war house with the router on the ground floor. The demanding youngsters on the two floors above with phones, X box and TV used only for streaming never complain about the WiFi signal. I use the 5 band wherever possible though I notice my phone automatically goes onto 2.4 if I am in the back garden.

I suggest either your Superhub is faulty or, more likely, there is interference from somebody else's WiFi or another wireless device.

Re: Wi-Fi & Shrub3

Download WiFi Analyzer for your smartphone, one of the screens tells you what nearby neighbours are using, I check mine monthly, and change accordingly.

If you are using a 2.4GHz wifi this is effected by microwave ovens and cordless phones.

Re: Wi-Fi & Shrub3

Have you contacted VM support at all about it?
Have you restarted the router?
Have you tried raising the position of the router?

Re: Wi-Fi & Shrub3

I always place my router on a shelf near the ceiling. Never had a problem with WiFi either on the current Superhub 3 or its predecessor, Superhub 1.

OK, so saying that is asking for trouble!

Re: Wi-Fi & Shrub3

We have no idea if its even a wifi issue, if he isnt getting wifi from 6 inches away would suggest the hub has crashed. A dodgy ethernet device can do this

I guess we go back to;

Have you contacted VM support at all about it?
Have you restarted the router?
Have you tried raising the position of the router?

Re: Wi-Fi & Shrub3

As I said..Was working, did work, a treat until it went bonkers n drove me bonkers...Moved it, put it back etc etc...No Microwaves near be. I do use Wifi Analyser on phone. All neighbours are on BT except one, on virgin like me. Alas She not home to use it and not used it for Months. Restarted Router so many times it,s done my head in mun LOL.
Anyway, Done all you all recommended before you told me to do so. EXCEPT! i not phoned Virgin yet, but i will do once I get their email to tell me price is going up..No way am I going to pay £50 for phone n internet...Paying £48 already and each time I read in here that others are paying less, I cringe. Thanks All.

Re: Wi-Fi & Shrub3

My TP-Link still keeps losing conection. Today would not connect at all.
Router Restart, Router Check...This is what I got. If you still think something is wrong, please check the following
1 Your broadband connection is working.
2 Gateway IPv4 address is valid.
3 The device has low signal strength, please move it closer to android-d19289a641f112e4.
4 Please place your WiFi device near the Hub 3.0.
5 Your broadband connection is down. >>>> (Can't be down as I'm in here)
6 The temperature of your Hub 3.0 is normal.

I can't get anything closer unless I lay Router Flat n put All on top of it..lol.
Even my Samsung Tab 3 for some reason got same MAC Address as my PC.
I can normally solve most of these probs but can't solve this one...I guess it is phone Virgin n they tell me all the things I already know n Done...
