Re: English cricket hits rock bottom again !

I wouldn’t agree with that, England did win the series but I personally felt underwhelmed by the overall performance. England got very lucky with the toss and the weather at Lords, without the three match turning innings from Curran, Woakes and Buttler none of whom are front line batsmen they would have been well beaten in this series by now. Only India’s total lack of preparation and England’s bowling helped them to scrape through. The batting regularly collapses and the slip catching is often very poor as well.

With a complete dearth of opening or no3 batsmen around and any obvious replacements for Broad and Anderson seemingly no where on the scene the short term future for English cricket is not that rosy ATM.

Re: English cricket hits rock bottom again !

Not the only thing to hit rock bottom,if Somerset don’t get a points deduction for the Taunton wicket there is no justice. 38 wickets have fallen before 3:00 pm on the second day.

It was a tie ! First in the county championship for 15 years. Sounds like a exciting entertaining wicket to me - can't have that in the game The Lancys are whinging though, no change there

Re: English cricket hits rock bottom again !

What’s a Lancy???

Is it the same as a Yorcy.

This quote from Somerset’s director of cricket made me laugh ‘ I have not seen evidence of excessive spin throughout the game’ ,

erm a spinner took 7 wickets for each side in the second innings.

Re: English cricket hits rock bottom again !

Obviously Somerset's director of cricket has finite knowledge of spin bowling.

Re: English cricket hits rock bottom again !

An amusing aside, as a true Lancastrian I will admit that my favourite brew is Yorkshire Gold from Taylor’s of Harrogate, a really great cuppa. Guess which cricket team they are sponsors of.

Re: English Cricket

This is more like it, only 1 wicket and a very modest 120+ runs at tea on the first day, 2.08 runs per over, proper test cricket.

Re: English Cricket

Well ‘someone’ was a little premature in altering the thread title.

Perhaps it should be changed to England’s Yorkshire batsmen hit rock bottom.
