You can read it on it's own, but it's more enjoyable if you know the backstory and the characters.

I suppose that's why they give it away, to get you to buy the previous books if you enjoy it.

Also, he's trying to move more into self-publishing, and this helps him gather some email addresses to contact when new stuff comes out (he's been quite open and honest about it, and in return we get freebies/early access to stuff).

Markos Kloos did the same with his e-arc of his latest MilSF Book.

Re: What are you reading?

Just finished Artemis by Andy Weir (The Martian) - really good fun.

Also the latest Jack Reacher book, Midnight Line, and the latest in the Charlie Stross ‘Laundry Files’ series, The Delirium Brief - both enjoyable in different ways.

Now reading The Cuban Affair by Nelson DeMille, and The Road to Little Dribbling by Bill Bryson.

Re: What are you reading?

I'm considering 'The Expanse' series by James S A Corey

Has anyone read these books? If so, is it a series that keeps you wanting more or one of those that starts struggling after the first few books?

Cheers for any info

edit: been backreading this thread and noticed you've read a couple Hugh . . so I'm going to go for them
