New Malden work

I have a VM Business broadband service fed from New Malden.
As a business customer they send out emails when any maintenance work could affect service.

The most recent of these is:
This planned work is required to complete Additional Docsis 3 downstream channels work at New Malden .

They confirm this will affect my service, which is already one of the areas that has been upgraded to 32 downstream channels. Thoguh the Hitron can only use 24 of them. So this would imply they are going beyond 32 now.

Re: New Malden work

Interesting, I wonder when the cut-off will be where they stop adding DOCSIS3 channels and instead rollout DOCSIS3.1 instead.

At some point they'll have to start decommissioning 3.0 to make room for more 3.1 frequency.

Re: New Malden work

There is a very good beginners' read at http://www.gcscte.org/presentations/...CSIS%203.1.pdf

I think in the described number of channels in this thread, insufficient have been added for DOCSIS 3.1 (a further 32 at least I would have thought). So I suspect these are just for the DOCSIS 3.0 DS pool ahead of the 1Gbps roll-out.

The DOCSIS 3.1 downstream frequency extends beyond 1.2GHz so there would be spectrum on the totality of DS channels for some DOCSIS 3.1.

The above is not authoritative - just my take.

Re: New Malden work

i’m also a business customer on this location, there have been quite a few service works messages over the past few months.p, although it’s not clear if they just keep pushing the date back or whether these are new works each time.

Re: New Malden work

This definitely seems to be new work, as, at least for my circuit, have been giving more reasons recently and they have been different each time.
