Major newspaper and government websites down
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-57399628
Quote:
A number of leading media websites are currently not working, including the Guardian, Financial Times, Independent and the New York Times.
The UK government website - gov.uk - is also down.
Affected websites displayed the message: "Error 503 Service Unavailable".
Early reports have suggested it could be related to Fastly, a cloud computing provider, which underpins a lot of major websites.

Re: Major newspaper and government websites down
AIUI in the interests of 'efficiency savings', companies seem to be getting rid of or not building in back up plans/spare capacity to cut costs. All very well until a problem occurs.
When water was privatised reservoirs were sold off and I've noticed that there are more occasional power cuts too.
I suppose these things are inevitable given that the private sector is focused on profit and the public sector (in theory) is more focused on service.
Whch is the better option seems to be a bit of a gamble really.
