Re: What are you reading?

After years of wanting to pick up the books but not actually doing, I finally achieved my goal of doing just that and I am half way through!

I'm talking about the Terry Pratchett Discworld novels, of which, I have begun reading the first novel - the Colour of Magic.

Hilariously funny I'm told they get better too.

For anyone thats interested, Waterstones are doing a 3 for 2 on his books. And secondly, my tip top Christmas gift for the serious readers out there:

http://www.lightwedge.com/

Which can be bought in two sizes - hardback and paperback. I bought the paperback version from:

http://www.seriousreaders.com/

Its extremely handy for reading in bed while the missus is trying to get some sleep! And it seconds as a bookmark.

The Sky 1 version is approved by Terry so should be good especially as it nearly 4 hours long they should get the story in properly.

Re: What are you reading?

I've no doubts

Anyone else see the interview with Terry Pratchett that was on a week or so ago? Was interesting. The Colour of Magic is his least favourite book and admits himself that as he has improved in his writing skills, its reflected in the books. They get better as you get through the novels. Which is great! Because the first one is superb!!

Am about to start reading 'Marley and Me; Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog' by John Grogan. Have been told not to read the last few chapters in public...

Re: What are you reading?

I just got all the Harry Potter books unabridged so that's going to be a while listening to them all

To be followed by all the Dune books in audio as well

Rounded off by a briefer history of time...

p.s. I did get the Dresden files - but not too sure about them yet.

Re: What are you reading?

I'm reading "The Last Man" by Mary Shelley - I wanted to read it before the film comes out.

Before that, I read her more famous book "Frankenstein: The Modern Prometheus". Both were written more than 170 years ago, so some of the language is a bit hard-going, but its well worth persevering.

Oh, and both are available as free downloads from Project Gutenberg (http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page).

I'm just reading Fatherland now (well, not right now, but you know what I mean). Fascinating book, although the matter of fact way that life under Nazi rule is described is rather disturbing (intentionally so, I think).
